RE: ROAD TRIPS 2013
Sam:
Went to Mac's back in 03 with Tim Mills, just for a long weekend of RC Flying during February snow storm here.
Mac has a nice place and I was impressed with the hobby shop.
Most LHS carry stuff for the .40 planes, you could buy all your giant 40% needs right there, DA engines and all.
Also getting to is place was impessive too.
Going by all the Cival War History.
Mac is out in the middle of no where.........LOL
Have a good and safe trip.

redbiscuits,
want to be just like me: old and wrinkled,... but having fun!
=======
John:
Sounds good. My buddy Paul Westrich has a few 1/2 scale WW I's.
=======
Roger,
I think this is my 4th trip there.
630 miles but get to enjoy a lot of it going through the mountains.
Not bad getting to his place: about 600 miles on I-75, get off and about 40 miles more on two state routes.
The truck holds 34 gallons so I can make it to Georgia before having to 'fuel up': Georgia's gas prices always seems to be 10-25 cents cheaper.
Last year, started going twice, spring and fall.
Can't beat a full size all grass runway plus a well stocked hobby shop and full size hangers for evening storage of your planes.

Mac Hodges warbirds over Georgia June 6-8.
Unfortunately, I had some personal business to take care of so I couldn't go to Mac's great flyin, but, at least my buddy, Scott Prossen, went and he sent me some pictures.
Here's a three pictures of the facilities from last year:
Here's some pictures that Scott sent me:
Frank on the flying line.
Carl's new 180" Hudson.
Hopefully, Scott will send some more.

IMAA chapter 169th flyin at GCRCC on June 8.
trip miles: 15.
About 550' of paved runway and grass on the far side plus another 100' of grass at the end of the paved runway.
Nice calm day for a flyin and very good food and only $2.50 for a cheeseburger (I ate my share!).
Ziroli SBD dauntless
TF ARF F4U.
Ziroli stearman with saito radial.
TF ARF B-25

169th (cont)
yellow spit.
BalsaUSA SE5.
I think 6 mustangs and one spit in formation.
Two rolled over and was claimed by the balsa gods due to battery failures. Not sure why pilots spend 2-4 grand on planes and not spend another 50 bucks and 'double battery' their planes (not just for lost of plane but also safety!). (I get cranky in my old age!)
Marks balsaUSA stearman with DA-150.
A true full size warbird. While in my truck, I slowly crept up to the hawk until he flew away.

TOP GUN 2013:
Top gun video that I had not seen that a friend sent me: a little different in that the pilots are interviewed.

RE: ROAD TRIPS 2013
Father's day flyin at Clinton model aviators in Wilmington, Ohio.
miles: 40
A nice comfortable day with light winds down the runway.
Their field is part of a private full size all grass runway.
A few days earlier, they had 5.5" of rain but got most of it pumped off the runway, plus they moved the pit area farther down the runway to higher ground so all worked out great.
After 370 flights, my Z P-47 is giving me a few problems. After about 3/4 of a flight, I had a dead stick on the far side but, lucked out, and was just able to get back to the runway. Also, the air lines have a slow leak, 20 lbs of pressure being lost in about 15 minutes.
The Z SBD flew well, though: enjoying doing dive bombing.
Anthony's big waco with 3W-157.
Randy's cub and Se5
Jim's TF P-47 and P-40.
Doug's Cessna (I think).
Owner of field taking off in his full size cub.

CMA (cont)
Americana:
structures in Wilmington.
A frat house of the local college.
Heading out of Wilmington on route 3/22 is as straight as an arrow for several miles.
Morrow:
An old railroad bridge converted to a bike path.
Little Miami river.

Hi Sam,
As always great to see you at the field. I do have to say you handled the dead stick on the P-47 very well, as usual nice flying.
I am already looking forward to next year and hopefully we won't have the water issues from heavy rains. That is the 1st time I have seen our field flood.
My truck broke down on the way home(front wheel bearing) I had to have a buddy pull my trailer home and had my truck towed[:@]. Overall it was a good day though.
Later!!
Anthony

June 22: WORKS general flyin with invite of Wilmington and Xenia club members.
miles: 20
An all grass, full size, private runway.
Light winds and around 90 degrees but the free food made up for the heat!
I had some troubles with my P-47 and forgot to take more pictures.
Bates B-26.
The red/white cub is 14' powered by a DA-120.
