Congratulations George and Dave on your team scale placement!!!

It is great to see an old WWII prop driven plane beat a jet, plus Greg is a great guy.

Here are the Expert final standings. Due to "brain fade" I don't have shots of the other finals.

I thought Greg really earned it on his third flight when he lost the left engine in Turn 3 and turned INTO the dead engine and a 15 mph crosswind and landed perfectly on the center stripe. I'm not sure the judges who gave him <92 on that flight really understood what a feat that was! A lot of good pilots there, but Hahn was a great choice for Top Gun!!

Dick, My girl friend's name is Susie Phillips, she works herself to death helping me everywhere. If not for her I would still be fishing, she couldn't believe I could walk away from something I enjoyed so much (modeling) so a year and a half after I met her here I (we) am (are). I thank her for re-kindling the drive and desire to build and fly. I'm enjoying it more than ever now!
It was great to see yourself as well as all the other new faces on the flight line at the "big shew". I think the pro/am class was a great idea, it not only adds much to the show but provides an even better entry point for new comptitors than the team event. You guys also help to lighten up the atmosphere around an otherwise "passionate" (being nice) group of modelers.
I was watching, and you did do your homework as you said in your last column. Very nice flying for your first time "under the gun", I hope you enjoyed it as much as the smile on your face indicated. keep up the good work and Susie and I'll see you next year if not before.
warmest regards
Greg Hahn ( it's just a walk in the park Pettit)

Thanks for all your congrats!! it's been quite a bit of work since my first TG in 95' so many ups and downs. But all well worth it. There's quite a large radius on the scale learning curve! Hopefully well never reach the end of it, (would be boring don't you think?) I expect to see all of you there next year! Maybe I'll have all the gremlins worked out of Tondelayo by then and I can do less wrenchin and more talkin and watchin between rounds
again thank you all!!!!

Greg: Wanted to throw in my congrats also since I was the last fan to shake your hand before you went to the flight line for that historic score of 99. I mentioned that I was the nephew of Howard Martz of the Converse Club in Indiana whom you know. Enjoyed the show and especially your performance.

Greg Hahn deserved the right to hold the honor of Mr. Top Gun. It's about time someone else can break into that circle of champions. I hope Top Gun is more spectator friendly next year. I couldn't believe they didn't even have a noon time pit walk about.

Gregory,
I have been wanting to call and congratulate you on a job well done. See, all it took was for you to get a great woman behind you and to display the Orange!. "Futaba!" I'm loving it. Hope to get to fly with you this summer.
Sincerely,
John Biondo

Your reply to my congrats to Greg is a little puzzling to me. It's still showing up in the threads, so I thought I would ask. It's well meant.....I hope.

It sure was ment well....I've watched him (via magazines) for years try so hard to win one of the big ones. Now he has! I like root'n for the underdog and he WAS, now I guess I have to start root'n for someone else . I've never met him but have been impressed by his efforts in the past.

tailskid: I first saw Greg at the 2003 & 2004 Top Gun competition in Lakeland, FL. At this year's Top Gun, at the urging of my uncle up in Indiana who knows Greg, I purposely hunted him down to shake hands and extend a 'hello' from Unc. He was very polite and took the time to exchange pleasantries with me even though he was busy getting ready to go to the flight line for Rd 4. Great guy and it made my day when he turned out to be 2005 Top Gun.

Jerry: It was an honor, believe me. At this point, I am just a fan and didn't realize at the time that I may be shaking hands with the Champ. I only chased him down because my uncle, Howard Martz of the Converse Club in Indiana knows him and ask me to say hello if I happen to meet him. I have a couple of electrics and a Futaba controller that I bought at Top Gun and will be getting more involved.
Good flying, Duane
