It would push the tail left and the nose right. Helping offset thrust.
It's called weathervaning.

I think we got off course on warbird takeoff discussion. In order to minimize plane pulling to the left on take off, bottom line is:
1) Take advantage of weathervane effect if having crosswind. Take off in direction that allows wind to blow against right side of fuselage.
2) Reduce P-factor which can be done by: a) put in 3-4 degrees right and down thrust on engine, b) get the tailwheel off the ground asap to reduce angle of attack/reduce P-factor, and allow rudder to be more effect to keep plane tracking straight down the runway.

What percentage of Throttle Curve would work, or to start with?

'' Engine at full rpm with with transmitter stick at half throttle. Going to try adding expo to slow throttle. Never tried this before.''

harley, don't know what Tx you have, but my Futaba has a throttle curve feature. If your Tx has it, that feature probably works better than using expo on a throttle.

Brian
Thats just a poor set up with the geometry of the servo arm and throttle arm on the carb.

My Zirolli P40 has terrible ground handling. On take off I steers hard left, not a drift, a turn left.
Gear is straight, both wheels roll free, engine thrust is good Flys like it is on rails , once you get it in the air, landing are straight
Engine is a 3w75 turning 6700, Mej 3 blade 22x10. Any suggestion would be helpful.
Have you tryied putting a little of nose down stick control just when it starts to swing and has some ground speed going.. this will lift the tail wheel and then give you the rudder control that you need to stop the pull/drift to the left , plus as already advised slowly apply the throttle on the take off run...
hope this helps

I have a couple of Skyshark P 40 that had the same problem. It was a handful on takeoff AND landings. Always wanted to pull left. The engines were set up straight as per instructions. One club member put in 2 degrees right and 2 degrees down thrust on his. It handles like a normal plane now. I did the same on both of my P40s and there are a real pleasure to fly now. It took some work to do but worth it! Paul

Another piece of evidence that it's important to put in right and down engine thrust to reduce P-factor.
