Default ESM P-39 I got all dirty

I bought this P-39 last year because I needed an ARF to break the monotony of building and I thought the ESM one was nice. Come to find out, the thing flies good too. After a few months of flying, I was sick of the typical "ARF" look and decided to pull out the weathering on her. This is the finished product. I thought some of you would like to see my "ARF-Bash". I'm flying it with a DLE 30 and all JR equipment. It flies great and is alot of fun.

Thanks for looking,
PJ

Very cool looking!!!!! I am just getting back to mine after a long Hi-a-tus working on float planes & stuff. I had a delay due to the ESM electric retracts and finally got the gen II stuff and I think the proper battery. Working on the Ty's cockpit today, 109F yesterday when I started again here in beautiful down town Buckeye, AZ. Had to break out the old swamp cooler in the garage. Pretty comfortable working right in front of it. I hav a Hacker 60L with two Nano Tec 500-s for it, 22 inch prop. The system with a Castle 120 ESC has been working good on a test bed, Funtana X. I'm a little concerned with cooling so I will leave the lower part of the "cactus" instrument panel off & try for extra airflow out the scale exhausts and may be behind the wing & bottom of the fuse. Anybody out there done a set up like this? Interested to hear how the cooling went. P-39 people....ENJOY. wallace.tharp

Very nice touch flyguy. I've finally got mine completed, tweaked and flying well. But looking at your pics, I might have some final touches to go yet!

Looks great. I finally found the color for the Ty's cockpit floor and rails that I like. I wonder through Dollar Stores looking for spray paint and such on my way to work and ran across, "Valspar " paint for plastics, 68122, Satin Apple. I bought a Great Planes "GMPQ9115, 1/5scale WWI German pilot and he looks WWII to me and is just about the right sacale. Because I am electric I have to get good airflow through the cockpit so the is sitting on a piece of balsa, about 2 inches high and then on the Ty"s seat. The balsa is shaped like his lower trunk would be and will be painted matching brown. Thinking abut making legs to the knee. I will leave the bottom of the "Cactus" part of the Ty's pannel off for air flow. Looks like the riffer petals will be unused allso for airflow. The seat is blocked up just a little with rails so air can flow under it. I drilled out the exhaust so they would be functional air outlets with the fuselage area removed behind them. I think I will need some additional openings behind the wing. Hope to come up with some kind of louver in front of the belly hole to help draw air out. Probably a clear soda bottle. Fun to be back on the P-39. Hey, I know we are not detail scale here, but if this goes really well I will do another one for more serious War Bird Stuff. The only thing I fly in the past couple of years is the "One Eight Airforce" fun contest In Mesa, AZ. wallace.tharp

Hi Wallace

I still have the gear doors Imade for your nose on the P-39

Iam in Litchfield, so we should be able to get together so Ican give them to you. Also I made another set from a mold, in the event of damage we can get more :-)

Thanks guys for all the kind words. I helped Darrell from Sierra Gear on putting a nose gear together for this plane. It really helps the over all look I think!

Hey Wallace,

The long nose gear is from Sierra. Not a problem at all. It works great. The panel lines and exhaust are all airbrushed to simulate the dirt and grime they would get in the field.

Thanks,
Pj

I have a secret crush on the P-39.. and a not-so-secret crush on PJ..
seriously, though, seeing how much you enjoy that 39, makes me want to ensure my old man gets one.. he loves the Airacobra..
