Default K140G Problems

Guys

I have had a few issues with my 140G that saw an extremely long start time (two minutes plus) and several un-commanded shut downs, luckily whilst still on the ground, this has been happening from new. In an effort to get acceptable start times I copied the settings from a friend’s 180F, the engine now starts very well and runs beautifully, however I have experienced two shutdowns whilst flying that culminated in some minor damage.

Would someone who is well versed in the setup and running of the 140G care to comment on the suitability of the settings, what I am looking for is if something I have done that is glaringly obvious to an experienced eye that would cause the shutdowns? If you feel that the settings should be fine I will have to search for another cause by checking and or replacing the fuel system.

Please be kind I am very new to turbines, many years in RC though.

Is this the only turbine that has been on this aircraft, or did you replace an engine with the 140G? I ask because I have seen the shutdown problem you describe after a 140G replaced a JetCat and the owner did not change the ATVs in the radio back to 100/100 and this was causing the shutdowns.

Just something to know and easily overlooked.

Hi Peter, please get in touch with KingTech Australia, Ken Mollison, he would be able to sort things out for you.

Thanks,
Barry

Hi Barry

I have been in contact with Ken on many occasions to sort out the issues I have had with my turbine, I think it might have him (and quite few others much more experienced than I) a little perplexed as to what is wrong that is why I have posted on RCU, Ken is a great guy and has always been extremely helpful, he had suggested different settings several times, his last suggestion was to take the engine to a guy located some distance from me so that he could assist and Ken would pay for it. There are a couple of issues doing what he said, I really don't have the time to take the model or engine to his go to guy as I have extremely limited time available and only get to fly occasionally as is, also his offer to pay for it whilst very generous doesn't sit well with me. As I said, the problems have been happening from new and I have rang Ken on some occasions when perhaps I shouldn't have but he has always been more than willing to provide an answer and always rings back to see how it has worked out. Btw, I used your suggested settings that gave me some initial success but the starts were always a little protracted (over two minutes) which given the relatively quick starts other guys were experiencing with their Kingtechs made me a little envious; the adopted settings have resulted in much quicker times but the shutdowns are a little unsettling

I am very new to turbines (more than 40 years in RC though) and not very confident with them as yet, the suggestion to check what the HDT indicated was a case in point, I completely forgot about that function and wasn't really aware how to do so (yes, I have read the manual but due to old age and ignorance it hasn't penetrated the old grey matter) thus the only reason for posting on here is that RCU appears to have a much broader knowledge base; with the help of Ken and the knowledge of people such as yourself I will hopefully get there.

Thanks and Regards
Peter

Hi have you tried giving the fuel pump run for few hours? We had a problem with a sticky pump so I ran it for few hours on my 20 litres kerosene container works perfect now

Hi Peter, I found your registration for your 170F but not this one, if all the information is still up to date, I will add the 277G under your name. Regarding to the issue you are having, if you have already checked your plumbing and determine that all is good, then I would think that we may have a faulty solenoid valve. I have already ordered the factory to supply Ken Mollison with warranty replacements, when you are ready, please get in touch with Ken to have the solenoid swapped out.

Regards,
Barry

Now that is strange I was sure that I had registered it, no change in my info thanks for adding it to the data base; I have checked all the plumbing and can't see anything obviously wrong, I have also been in touch with Ken where he mentioned about the solenoid, is the change out a difficult task i.e. do I need any specialist tools etc?

Peter
