It flew extremely well. I didn't really pay much attention to the landing distance but it landed nicely.

Did anyone present notice the small skymaster A10 powered by EDF's flying and have any comments on the landing distance required and how it generally flew?
Its pictured in post 208, but only as a static shot.
Actually, it wasn't that small. It was a Skymaster 1/7.75 scale with an 80" WS and two Tam Dynamax conversions on 12s.

Landing distance is determined more by pilot skill than anything else and that seemed normal for an aircraft like that. Takeoff, however is determined by power-to-weight, and this one was pretty sporty as I recall. I think on the takeoff when I spotted for him, he was off the ground before he got to full power - say maybe 150-200'...

Gents,

Attached is the video of me flying my 1/7.75 scale EDF A10 at the FIF event. It's not that great qualtity as it was done with my hat mounted gopro, but gives you a general feel for it. As mentioned it flys on 2 128mm dynamax coversions (PNP from Tam), powered by 12S each. Each fan puts out 18lbs of thrust which is way more needed for this 32lb bird. Flight time with throttle managemnt is about 6-8 mins. Flys and lands like a dream.

If memory serves me right, that was a 7 AM Sunday morning flight? Had to be pretty early because the flight line wasnt full !
Very nice flying plane by the way! A-10s always present so well in the air.

Thanks Larry...yes was early, as this was only the 3rd flight and did not want to work out any bugs with a full flight line. Great event, by the way!!! Can't wait till next year to go again. Are you going to VA jets?

You bet Wes! We're headed up Thursday afternoon with a trailer load of jets. We attended last years event and had a great time. Like FIF, it's a Pilots Event with plenty of flying time for all. Great hanger to store planes in, hotels close by,and its all located right off I-77.

Not sure what bugs you were trying to work out of the A-10. From what we saw, that bird was on a rail

Glad you enjoyed FIF and we really look forward to having you back again.

Hey All!

I'm helping put proper captions to some photographs for a First in Flight article and was hoping someone could give me the details about the photo below. It's obvious it's a BAE Hawk but the unknowns are: which Mfg?, owner/pilot?, turbine?

Any prompt help would be appreciated!

Hey Robert,

That's my plane. Extreme (skymaster) 1:5.5 scale with a jetcat P80se. I built it two years ago with the intention of building very light. It flys great. Thanks

Very fun weekend. Thanks to all for the southern hospitality, even though we were called yankees several times. :-)
Awesome event!

Scott,
You must have not read the info included with the pilots pack. You guys were spose ta be call'n us Hicks!!! lolol
FIF is all about fellowship, fun, flying and joking with our friends. I'd say we accomplished all of those things! Thanks again for supporting us and we really look forward to having you all back again next year.

Oh,,,,Just for the record,,, I'm married to a Yankee! She's an awesome lady, loves Grits,,,but after 28 years of marriage I still cant get her to say the words "Y'all " when refering to more than one person in a crowd! I just cant figure it out,,,,! lolol

Larry, Scott does not get out of New Jersey that much but we are trying to make him culturally diversified, it's a work in progress. I took me almost a whole day convince him that you where not the same Larry that coined the phrase Git-R-Done. I m trying to drag him to Kentucky but it may be to far inland for him. Y'all can call us Yankees all you want we don't care, just don't call us late for dinner. We had a lot of laughs there and next year should be even better. Thanks again.

Jeff
thanks for the kind words, I had a blast.

I couldn't get the video to work. It may be my fault, not sure.
