Thanks Ron,
Onebolt fell insideand I had a heck of a time trying to get it out. After 20 minutes or so of playing with it,I gave up and cut theopening. I figuredthat part is hidden and not really supporting anything. The opening is2 inches wide by 3/4 inch high. It is not real big justbig enoughto get myfingers or hemostats in there to get the bolts started back intothe holes. The grommets do help but sometimes they do come off. So when they do and the bolts come out I can get them in with no problem. You just have to make sure if they come out of the holes that they do not fall out of the scoop and get lost. Don't ask how I know that.

Bill

Hey Blue Max

good idea cutting a hole in the back of the scoop. I was getting tired of holding the wing over my head and using hemostats to pull the screws out of the scoop.

I got tired of losing wing bolts. Found something that works great......1/4" nylon retaining washers that are equipped with four, spring type locking fingers.

Now I'll never lose a wing bolt again, plus they are only $1.80 for 50 of them at Micro Fasteners. http://www.microfasteners.com/produc...cat=560&page=1

Easy to install. Simply push the wing bolt all the way through the wing then install a retaining washer on the fuselage side of the wing. The wing bolts will now always be stored on the wing.

Wing is almost complete... went with the Robart 590E electric retracts and struts. Should be here any day. Using the Ternigy servo slowing 3 channel unit on the flaps to slow deployment to mid and full. This would also work great with the mechanical retracts and 2 retract servo's. Receiver wire plugs into it and has three servo lead out, each with it's own rate adjustment.
Ordered this Sullivan glow driver that's fully digital. Will take a 1.2 to 12v batttery with built in regulator. Flashes when the plug is not at it's peak or compromised. digital adjustment on point is cool too with the throttle servo going through it.
This will be fun to test out.

Glad to see you're having fun with your 'Stang !

Robart 590 E's ? Were they a pretty close fit into the supplied wheel wells ?

I have'nt flown mine in quite a while. Just pulled her down from the ceiling, dusted her off and threw her on the batt charger.

The only advice I can give you for the first flight is: when landing, don't try to float her in at or near engine idle speed. The wing on this particular plane doesn't seem to like slow speeds.........slow speed invites a wing stall. Keep some power on until the main wheels touch the ground, then gently feed in some up elevator to get the tail wheel to settle onto the ground. Don't ask me how I know this.[X(][]

As far as takeoffs and general flying performance, you couldn't ask for a better plane.[8D]

They fit perfect!!!! Will take a photo and see about a vid of the gear working with the sequencing board.
Amen on the landing... I am typically flying an Ultimate bipe that lands tail wheel first === love to drag the tail wheel and let the mains gentle settle in. I added some weight on the ultimate and been landing on mains with power on till their settled to 'condition' the brain for the brick with wings.
will take some pics of the simple changes in linkage to the flaps to run a Y on the flaps and eliminate the variable geometry inherent with the same direction servo mounting. This is my P(T)-51 to fly while saving for the Aeroworks P51.

Well... was going to post pics of some cool easy mods... but internal 500 error keeps popping up.
The Robart 590's are here... eletric conversion by "Down and Locked"... sequencing board ... all very nice. 653 struts and wheels with mods to make them a little more scale in appearance. 75% done over the weekend with some spare time out of the boat.

When the Robart wheels came in I didn't care for the plastic look and the open back that would be facing out on the plane. After a search for aluminum wheels in this size there are none. So ordered a second set of spoked covers that "wont fit" according to robart. Bored out the center to cover the screws and facilitate the axle and they look much better. broke then down and applied a chrome coat, burnished to give a more aluminum appearance and painted the center of the hub in zinc chromate. this is the best I can get them to look for what they are. The nice thing is I have 20.00 in them instead of 80+ each.

cut some triangle stock and epoxied onto the horiz stab for a little extra reinforcement... added an aluminum tail wheel I had on the parts wall in lieu of the foam one supplied.

doctored up under the canopy with a coating of the zinc chromate... battery box and seat painted. The pilot is just to preppy shine for a warbird. In total crontrast to the aerobatic planes.... it was fun to 'weather his jacket, helmet etc. with 1000grit emory cloth. did some more on the seat after photo. Made a balsa base for the pilot and battery box to secure with wood screws from inside.
Dash is same with the balse spacers on the back side. Adding red LED's in space behind dash to light the instruments when glow driver battery is energized. Aluminum tape to reflect the light. easy, .. only a couple of grams of weight for a functional reminder battery is energized. Gear and glow driver have their own battery.

9402's on all critical surfaces and 545's on the flaps.. not wanting to use a second channel of the flaps and keep the geometrey the same with the servo's - used the robart horns mountedover the hinge and double ball link connectors to the servo. They are now the same angle and ratio on both sides. Added a turnegy speed reducer to slow the flap delpoyment down for a scale look and smooth out the transition in flight.

Lookin' Good !

Yeah.....the Aero Works P-51 ARF. Probably the most expensive P-51 out there. I see they now have a nice "B" model along with the "D".

Yeah... its the most expensive up front but comes with everything.. including gear/aluminum wheels, sliding canopy, inner doors, etc etc.. it's impressively complete.... add it all up on the TF giant and the TF finished is same or more. Yeah, the B model is nice. I am a D model fan though. this is the drive unit being made now for the 24" solo prop (4 blade) to go in it. A fall project after the prop curves are established. the final version in CNCnow has the prop hub extended a little further so there's enough room under the cowl for the plug ... fun project.

Thanks Redtail.... I did a lot of research of flying examples before making the decision. It is only 8" pitch but I am getting 8900 to 9100 static. The 8900 setting will be where I keep it. it should give me unloaded about 65 mph which would be 455 in scale. we'll see ... real world.
Hopefully back on this on Friday. Been in KY at the new corvette race track and museum on business all week(was FUN)

How do the struts attach to the retracts? As best I can tell Robart is not using the wire on these correct?

on the 590's.. the mount is for the struts. No wire. The struts came with adapters that will slip over the retract wire that can be used on the standard gear. I am having a time and some thought into getting the gear doors attached and aligned in a manner that will take some abuse.

So how is the strut held so it does not rotate?

Dawhale, the struts fit directly into the trunnions and are held by 2 set screws. Thunderboat, you need to post your video to youtube or some other source like photobucket and then provide a link. Look under the FAQ forum for complete instructions. Are you able to mount your gear doors and get them to sit flush? I have the 551rs 85 deg units with the same struts and they sit out of the wing too much. Still working on it, butI wishedI had bought the 90 deg unitsso I can shim them up in the backso they will drop further into the wells.

ThunderBoat42, your posts have earned me a big brownie point with my wife. I was checking out the Solo website and looking at prices when my wife tapped me on the shoulder and gave me a kiss. She then looked at me very seriously and said "If you ever buy a propeller that costs over $300, I'll kill you".

To put it into prospective, I have just over $600 invested in the whole airplane. You have over $600 invested in the first 6".

Thank You!! My wife nowknows that there are other RC'ers who are much worse that me. My "toys" are cheap in comparison.
