Default Hi Vin

I should really check the fuel consumption of these P-80s and P-120s when set up at the Ram 500 and wren thrust levels (11-12 pounds) . We get a lot of questions on this, like idle thrust, etc, and the system weight with a P-80 is only like 6 ounces more than the Ram/Wren

Plus the new P-80s are very powerful on the stand too, oops shouldn't say that never know who is reading!!

We shipped a mountain of these in the last 2 days, with 2 more mountains due over the next 2 weeks. So you guys that are waitng, make sure and get to the UPS guy before the wife!! (kidding)

Default Building

Ok fuel tanks in, used a 8oz header tank with 2 df 11oz saddles so a totall of 30 oz ,so on to the tail first ordered were some carbon rods 24x5/32 with 4.40 titanium tips for elevator and rudder from central hobbies allso servos to,,, ill add a brass tube for strength on the elevator tube spar as tam stated for extra strength you can make the tail removable but ill glue it! I decieded to use the elevator rod that came with the kit I found out the prototype had a 2/56 rod moving the elevator no wonder it fludered. ill put the gear in pretty straight foward and hinge all surfaces and it will be ready for servos and set up by the time they get to me, totall time on the engine, fuel and ducting was 2hrs.

What are your recommendations for hinges in this plane? Since the slots are already cut for CA hinges I was thinking about going with a flat pinned type of hinge. I know the Robart pin point hinges are excellent but I’m concerned that there might not be enough lumber in the built up surfaces to support them.

Default UPDATE ALMONST READY

Hi well the elevator was the real pain on this kit I should of completly modified it the throw on the up side barly makes the recomended 7/8" but I did my best you are probly better off putting the servos in the tail but I opted for the carbon rod but then I had to re inforce the servo mount area with 80-20 fiber to give more strength! anyways the plane took a considerable amount of re tunning but all in all a fraction of the time to build the original kit take in mind this is a jet arf its not going to slap toghther like a hanger 9 cub! heres some pics I plan on a test flight on thursday I will post the results!!

Default 16.5pounds

i would not worry about the weight, My BVM F-86 weights in at 16.5pounds dry, it has had a OS .91/BVM 91 and now a BVM .96 and it flown without any problems. As i'm sure you know make that Take Off Roll a little longer and landings a little faster.

Good luck !!

jettset99

The Ziroli Panther in my avatar has flown with a Dynamax/OS 91
at 24+ lb dry weight. admittedly, it was no speed demon, and required a long, smooth runway to get off, but it flew. Straight and level speed of approx 110, top speed radared in a dive was 126.

I currently have a 15+ lb. F-106 which flies nicely with the same power package.

Default First flight one piece!!!

Ok It flew not real fast But it was the eaisiest jet I ever flown it did jump up at takeoff it tiped to one side but with little effort I kept the nose down and climed out it suprised me that it climed out so well I didnt get the gear up due to my smoth stop it was super extra stable and has a good solid feel,It flew like a high wing trainer prop It rolls great and tracks straight my landing was not the best,, the worst was the nose stearing needs a new one period and need to adjust the smoth stop or change it out to a jet tronic setup I didnt use flaps but it doesnt need them for shure as a ducted fan, the speed was about 100 I will make the fixes and fly again saturday morning I messed with it for a hour and had only one flight due to the nose gear setup to much slop! Thanks for the help if you have this kit Its a great first Jet turbine or ducted fan!!

Jettset,
Please explain why you couldn't get the gear up because of the smooth stop? You are using the smooth stop for the brakes right? Just curious because I was considering using the smooth stop for brakes on my 339.

TIA,
Randy

Default Smoth stop

Its not the smoth stop problem it was my first time using one but from what I know know the smoth stop uses only 60 psi I run 110 so it had to much pressure I set it wrong and had air leaking , the jettronic is eaisier to set and paramiters are wider range I like the jettronic electric valve better for this reason first I use a channel with a switch then you can set it so only as your push down elevator it comes on , now heres the best part after start up and taxi back you can use the switch so it locks the brakes! great to pick up the reciever or so you can have your hands free if your by yourself, allso the jettronic valve has a red led that lets you know when its working and how its working full or paportional plus it plugs directly into the reciever no srvos needed.

Default 339 Owners please read

Mods, I have posted this in another thread but though it would be usefull here as well. If you feel that this is not necessary please delete.

Hi Randy

I just got a call from a guy called **** complaining about a loose wing on
his airplane after a bounced landing. This guys flies DF and I think he may
be the one who's been posting his progress on RC Universe.

I am not on RC Universe, but I'd appreciate it if you could post the
following:

====
Engineering Notice for Cermark MB-339 ARF owners
------------------------------------------------

We have received a report from a customer that his wings worked loose after
a hard landing. We have examined the kit, and advise all owners to take the
following action:

The wings plug into 4 aluminum spar pockets and retained by setscrews. The
formers to which the spar pockets are bolted to are further reinforced by
carbon fiber plates. These have proven strong enough to tolerate a
cartwheel on landing.

The 4 aluminum wing spar pockets in the main formers are mounted on the
formers by two M3 socket head steel bolts and lock nuts each. The mounting
holes for these bolts are intentionally drilled slightly oversize to
accomodate final incidence adjustments at the factory.

It is possible that if the bolts work loose, the wings could rock slightly
in their mounts.

Please go over all the spar pocket bolts and make sure they are are very
tight. Also, wick thin CA behind each aluminum extrusion to make sure they
cannot move relative to the former. It may be a good idea to spread a
fillet of slow-curing epoxy (e.g. Aeropoxy) around the spar pockets as well
to ensure security.

We will be advising the factory to epoxy the spar pockets in place after
final adjustments on the next batch of airplanes.

Default Cermark MB339 ARF fan to turbine First flight Ok..

Those of you that have flown one, please answer some questions. When in a knife edge, will it hold it well? Is there much roll coupling in a knife, or straight as an arrow with little roll? Thanks.
