ESM LA-7 From VQ Warbirds
That's good, if it is not ready or the weather is not right is it best to wait. Many guys at our airfield always push others that have new planes to get them in the air. Not a good way, take your time.
Good advice! Last fall after fixing air leaks and motor on a Byron's P-51 ( form long storage). A friend wented to try his P-51 I told him to wait because of the cross wind. He asked me to test it I told him no not with this cross wind. His mother was their and he wanted her to see it so he tryed. End of story not good caught mesh next to field and flipped. Still not fixed.
The Saito 325r5 does indeed fit well into the cowling. I know this for a fact because I have this set up myself. The AUW of the aircraft is a little over 25 pounds. It flies great with plenty of speed. And the sound cannot be beat. Have a look at YouTube. Nzkiwibandit.

No more JC Evo 30 for my La7.
I bought a Saito FG 57, with a beautiful exhaust sound. A video of the first start.
http://youtu.be/Ifdol4vy0MQ
used a 20x8 prop
added down and right thrust to motor
pushed the tail up on take off
got it going about 100mph before I even pulled back! ha ha
only need a click or two for right roll
lots of down trim
it was so windy (20mph+) that I couldn't tell if it needed rudder trim.

ps - I can never get the "youtube" link to work...
Can any of you LA-7 pilots tell me after flying your plane how much down elevator to flap mix did you use on landing? I am about to maiden my LA-7. Just a general idea of how much is the norm and I can adjust it from there. Thanks, S Mullis
Good luck,
Cheers
This means that the plane is no longer "flying" and prevents any chance of it ballooning on you. I practiced on my sim to get the feel and method ingrained so that it became 2nd nature. Good luck with the maiden. A good method on first landings is to always keep the nose down. Fly it to the ground. Keep us informed of your results.
Regards,
The KiwiBandit.
If I can get it off the ground ok I have it half whipped.LOL I will try and get a video of it and see let you fellows check it out if possible. Wish me luck!!! Thanks Again Steve Mullis
Remember - the wing loading is high for it's size so don't go slow. Almost surely the left wing tip will drop without warning and spin. Very cool when it's planned. Not so good on landing.
A video please to show us all your skills from the knowledge learned.
Waiting eagerly to see another fine representation of this great warbird.
Good luck.
Kiwi Bandit.
I draw the 3D model and my friend made a steely model for the fibreglass form. The last step was make a fibreglass spinner with aluminium base.
Now I can adjust this spinner for a prop.
Good luck with the maiden. Remember - speed is your friend with this model. High wing loading. DON'T get slow.
Kiwi Bandit.

For a decent looking Russian pilot what I did was go to Monkey Depot and piece one together using various different outfits, it actually turned out quite nice. I've done two Russian pilot that way, I would take a picture of them for you, but they are on a container ship bound for Hawaii at the moment.

I´m going to get some scale pilot, but I must wait for the maiden flight. Every my airplane in which was some pilot crashed during the maiden flight. Since last crash I add pilot after some flights.
I´m waiting for the pictures of your Russian pilot.
I'll post photos of them once I'm able too.

is history
Wow, so sorry to hear of your loss... The new paint is/was very cool. I'm just about to getting back to mine after an extended period of sitting at about 3/4 done. I've finally worked through some other projects to the point the LA7 can take center stage on my build table.
