Default Troy Built Models 107" Cessna 195 Buisinessliner

This one looked nice from the pictures and videos. https://www.troybuiltmodels.com/item...95-107AAF.html I could not find a thread anywhere on this aircraft, so I decided to start a new thread.

I ordered one today. I have not heard of ECOMRC products so it appears I'm the guinni pig for this one.[X(][X(] Hope ECOMRC doesn't turn around and bite me in the a**.

In planning on powering it with a DLE 55RA (rear exhaust) gasser.

Stay tuned.

The 195 is an elegant airframe.

I'll be interested to read your impressions of this ARF.

You may be interested to know that there are two, similar sized, Hostetler Plans Cessna 195s in Michigan. One is in Ann Arbor, One is in Traverse City.

Hey Joe I have the ECOMRC Stinson 108 from TBM very nice airplane. Easy builder and great flyer, I put a DLE 30 in mine its a perfect combination. I don't know about the 195 but the Stinson windshield is very fragile I put my hand through mine when I started it at half throttle by mistake. Been waiting for 2 months for a new one, they are out of stock. Keep us posted Im also thinking of getting a 195 also it looks better than the Aero works and is a lot cheaper.

Hi scale,

I’m pretty excited. It was shipped late today and I hope to have it by the end of the week. I also ordered a scale spinner from Troy Built.

The Stinson ? I had a tough time making up my mind between the Stinson and the Cessna 195.

It appears ECOMRC modeled their version after a certain full-scale Cessna 195 with the number NC3081B. There are quite a few pictures and videos on the net of this particular Cessna. The ECOMRC covering color is off a little from the real NC3081B, but with the many pictures I found, adding scale details to my own version should be very easy.

Notice the two flip down landing lights mounted below both wings in one of the pictures. I’m going to try to duplicate them......maybe using a mini-servo to flip them up and down.

As you say, there is plenty of info available on the net. Cockpit pics seemed to be a little difficult to find, at least for me.

Here are pics of the steering yoke and instrument panel, that I built for my plans built 195. They may help you, a little.

Thanks Joe.

It will be interesting to see what improvements you make to the ECOMRC version.

A friend called , saying that a cream colored 195 landed at the Traverse City airport, yesterday.

My Cessna 195 came today........really big, heavy-duty, extra thick outer box with a second inner box.

Everything was packaged great with no damage at all. I looked real hard and could not find so much as a wrinkle anywhere on the covering.......that’s a first for me.[X(]

This is definitely NOT an ARF for a beginner as the assembly manual leaves a lot to be desired. I get a big kick out of the Chinese-to-English translation.

I spent the afternoon looking over all of the parts and dry fitting everything that I could. So far, so good !

It’s summertime here now, so I had not planned on jumping immediately into assembly of this aircraft just to be able to get her finished. If she gets finished before the end of Michigan’s flying season.........that’s good. If not, I’ll finish it up this fall.

DLE has a new 55 with a rear-facing exhaust outlet port........they now call it a DLE 55RA. The RA’s muffler (they call it a muffler but it’s really just an open-chambered exhaust diversion pipe) appears it may be too loud for my clubs noise rule (96 db). But, alas......Troy Built has a set of specially designed plugs (they have a video at their website) to be placed into the two muffler down tubes. The plugs are used to tone down excess sound level. I’ll probably wing up getting two of them. They claim their installation will only cause a loss of about 100 rpm at wide-open-throttle.

Today I’m making a list of everything I’ll be needing to complete the model.

As a part of my Cessna 195 to-do list, I had planned on using and ordering the newer DLE 55 RA with the rear exhaust

But, I just talked to JTEC about a muffler. He completely talked me out of getting a DLE 55RA instead of the older side exhaust DLE 55. We discussed the reasons why for a while, including why DLE even went to rear port exhaust.

His reasons sounded pretty good to me. He also told me by using the side exhaust 55 there are many more muffler options available by almost all of the muffler manufacturers.

After I get the DLE55 mounted to my Cessna, he said to take some pictures and get some measurements. They will then custom make anything I want. They can get the down tubes to exit anywhere I like with or without the additional JTEC Snufflers (Snufflers are JTEC’s noise reducers). We also discussed db noise rules and the use of certain 2-blade props to help curtail noise when using the DLE55.

I learned a lot and the phone call was well worth the time spent.

My mufflers required modification, as they interfered with the cowl. You may run into similar issues.

Lookin' Good Tom !

Can't wait to see her all finished up.

After I send them some pictures and dimensions, I'm going to have JTEC custom-build me an exhaust system.

Thanks for the invite Tom, but my club.......the Radio Control Club of Detroit (RCCD) is having our annual scale meet on that same weekend http://www.rccd.org/Documents/2013_d...e%20pilots.pdf

I also belong to the Romeo Skyhawks RC club. We had our scale meet today.......just got home.

Thanks

It's a 50cc twin, similar to an Aerovate. http://www.kmp.ca/product_info.php?products_id=213

I bought it because it was the only twin, that I could find, that fit inside the 195's cowl.

I haven't fired it up, and my Cessna is yet to fly. I'm hoping that both occur soon.

HEY Joe Im ordering my195 Monday Im not sure what engine Im putting in it. I watched the TBM video and Gene said with that short nose it will need a lot of nose weight, what did you find in yours Im probably going to put a DLE 55 in it even though aI prefer a PTE 36. Advisme buddy.

First, go back and read post #10 about my talk with JTEC about the DLE 55 versus the newer rear port exhaust DLE 55RA.

I ordered a DLE 55 (side port exhaust) yesterday along with a drill jig fixture for the prop. I'm going to start off with a Xoar 22 x 8 wood prop........picked it up yesterday. This one seems to be the most popular prop for this particular engine.

Your right..........I viewed that same video. That's one of the reasons I'm using the (heavier) DLE 55 versus the lighter PTE 36. It appears almost everything will need to be mounted up near the nose because this aircraft has a very long tail moment.

This plane just HAS to have a complete exterior lighting system.......go back to post #4 for the pictures. The last time I did a complete lighting system on an ARF, it took a lot of extra work. I also had to purchase 24" and 36" drill bits.

I had originally planned on doing a nice scale-like interior with a pilot (this plane comes with nothing for an interior). But I took the easy way out and picked up a spray can of Black Translucent Testors spray paint instead to paint the glass.

Joe:

By mounting everything up front, there wouldn't be much room for a scale cockpit, anyway. Painting the glass is probably the best option.

I used an Electro Dynamics light system. http://www.electrodynam.com/rc/EDR-117/index.shtml What system do you plan to use?

I tried to post pics of the lighting, on a full scale, but Internal Servo Error thing pops up. [:@]

ElectroDynamics lights ? I have a few sets of them. Andy Lowe (ElectroDynamics owner) calls them "sun bright lights". They are probably the brightest ones available out there, but a little pricey versus the other brands. Guess you get what you pay for. I have probably tried almost all brands of LED's, but the ElectroDynamics ones are still the brightest......just my opinion.

The biggest challenge will be doing the wing tip lighting and the top of the rudder.

I ordered a scale, red colored beacon light from AeroWorks. It's a scale beacon for AeroWorks own version of the Cessna 195. It mounts on top of the fuse behind the wing.
