You should go to the airfield with me because I have some firend who push me and the other colleagues mainly before the maiden flight. Some of these flights were total disaster for the model. You should go with me and say them "That's good, if it is not ready or the weather is not right is it best to wait."

That's good, if it is not ready or the weather is not right is it best to wait. Many guys at our airfield always push others that have new planes to get them in the air. Not a good way, take your time.

Good advice! Last fall after fixing air leaks and motor on a Byron's P-51 ( form long storage). A friend wented to try his P-51 I told him to wait because of the cross wind. He asked me to test it I told him no not with this cross wind. His mother was their and he wanted her to see it so he tryed. End of story not good caught mesh next to field and flipped. Still not fixed.

Hi Jeff,
The Saito 325r5 does indeed fit well into the cowling. I know this for a fact because I have this set up myself. The AUW of the aircraft is a little over 25 pounds. It flies great with plenty of speed. And the sound cannot be beat. Have a look at YouTube. Nzkiwibandit.

Hello

No more JC Evo 30 for my La7.
I bought a Saito FG 57, with a beautiful exhaust sound. A video of the first start.

I finally got mine in the air after two bad attempts

used a 20x8 prop
added down and right thrust to motor
pushed the tail up on take off
got it going about 100mph before I even pulled back! ha ha

only need a click or two for right roll
lots of down trim

it was so windy (20mph+) that I couldn't tell if it needed rudder trim.

ps - I can never get the "youtube" link to work...

Hi rcfan,
did you measure the static thrust on your Lavochkin?

Can any of you LA-7 pilots tell me after flying your plane how much down elevator to flap mix did you use on landing? I am about to maiden my LA-7. Just a general idea of how much is the norm and I can adjust it from there. Thanks, S Mullis

I didn't mix any in...use full flaps and you will need to keep the power up and fly it down to the runway.....flies nice though it may tend to climb if you didn't compensate during the build

Mine has no elevator trim in with the partial flaps and just a tad with the full. I use 2 position for the flaps about 10 degree and 40ish degrees. If I am going to fast when I deploy eithe partial or full flaps it generally means I was going to fast. As LA-7 Fliers suggest keep some power on with the full flaps if you don't in will really slow down and then bad things can happen, mine spins to the left :-) Keep it away from the stall and fly it all the way down, its a nice flying model.

Good luck,

Cheers

Hey smullis. Like the others have said. I advise against mixing in ele-flap. I fly mine with no mix at all. On the downwind leg I reduce power to 50% or so and feed in flap to slow it down. my flap angle is 45 deg. Keep enough power on that it doesn't sink yet. When the gear is deployed the extra drag will slow it enough to start descending. This works for me anyway. It ensures you have enough power to prevent the posibility of stalling. A trick I use on the flare to touch down is to close the flaps as soon as the gear touches the ground.
This means that the plane is no longer "flying" and prevents any chance of it ballooning on you. I practiced on my sim to get the feel and method ingrained so that it became 2nd nature. Good luck with the maiden. A good method on first landings is to always keep the nose down. Fly it to the ground. Keep us informed of your results.

Regards,

The KiwiBandit.

kiwibandit and other LA-7 pilots, Thanks a million fellows for the input and I sure will put it to good use. I had it all programed in with my JR-11X but then I bought me the Sprktrum QQ D-18 and the hook up on the receiver is alot different than on the 11-X but I have it almost ready again.
If I can get it off the ground ok I have it half whipped.LOL I will try and get a video of it and see let you fellows check it out if possible. Wish me luck!!! Thanks Again Steve Mullis

Regarding the take-off. Get the tail up early in the roll so you can control the swing to left with rudder. I don't know how long your strip is but use it all for the first lift off. There will be more chance of getting it off the ground clean and tidy if it has plenty off air speed. The La-7 is prone to prematurely lift off and stall if the tail is not high enough. Speed is your friend.
Remember - the wing loading is high for it's size so don't go slow. Almost surely the left wing tip will drop without warning and spin. Very cool when it's planned. Not so good on landing.

A video please to show us all your skills from the knowledge learned.

Waiting eagerly to see another fine representation of this great warbird.

Good luck.
Kiwi Bandit.

After some time, I´ve finally done the spinner for my Lavochkin.
I draw the 3D model and my friend made a steely model for the fibreglass form. The last step was make a fibreglass spinner with aluminium base.
Now I can adjust this spinner for a prop.

Nice job dude.
Good luck with the maiden. Remember - speed is your friend with this model. High wing loading. DON'T get slow.

Good luck my friend! That spinner looks great!

For a decent looking Russian pilot what I did was go to Monkey Depot and piece one together using various different outfits, it actually turned out quite nice. I've done two Russian pilot that way, I would take a picture of them for you, but they are on a container ship bound for Hawaii at the moment.

Thank you Casey.
I´m going to get some scale pilot, but I must wait for the maiden flight. Every my airplane in which was some pilot crashed during the maiden flight. Since last crash I add pilot after some flights.
I´m waiting for the pictures of your Russian pilot.

I did find the pics I worked off of. My pilots turned out quite similar. They use American equipment such as headgear, oxygen mask, and seat parachute. I found two different Russian uniforms one brown and one gray green. I found appropriate gloves and boots to match as well.

I'll post photos of them once I'm able too.

Just a quick pic of a "reconstituted" ESM LA7. A couple of months back, the motor quit while taking off (cold solder joint) resulting in a broken wing. I decided to rebuild the wing and fully sheet it plus rebuild the gear mount box. Here is the result....the green is lighter than I want but otherwise a pretty specimen. Unfortunately, I lost the plane right after this pic was taken due to a cross wind gust getting under the wing causing it to cartwheel and destroyed both the wing and fuselage. So....after 30 something flights, this plane
is history

Hey LA7flier,

Wow, so sorry to hear of your loss... The new paint is/was very cool. I'm just about to getting back to mine after an extended period of sitting at about 3/4 done. I've finally worked through some other projects to the point the LA7 can take center stage on my build table.
