Default Glenn torrance D VI

Having trouble contacting Glenn to get the C.G.location for his 1/4 scale DVI.

Anyone know what it is?

I have mine marked between 4-7/8 and 5 inches from the leading edge of the top wing.

I don't know yet I'm going to maiden very soon. My bud has the same plane and his CG is per the plans. My are too. His flew fine but he has only a few flights too.

How about the cg location for the same plane in 1/3 scale? Anyone know that one?

I know that Balsa USA and GTM are a different airframe. But the 1/4 scale Balsa USA DVII CG is at 5 inches. So that would sound like a good place to start for GTM, as BobH said before.

Since we are talking DVI I had to show my finished plane.. It has a 7-70 radial for power.. sounds sweet! NO added nose weight needed! yipeee

That DVI looks Sweet! Nice Job. I am just entering the final stages of a DR1 build. (BUSA) It has a GTM cowl though, and some other scale details. I really want a DVi one day. Will most likely scratch build one in 1/4 scale. That is a more practical size for me.

thank you vert. GTM has stopped producing the 1/4 kits but they sometimes show up.

My bud also has one. His has a Laser 200 engine and it flies it just fine. Pretty cool plane.
I put one of Lothar figures in it from Best Pilots. Really looks the part in the plane..

I have a Lothar pilot as well for my new triplane. They are very great pilots. He really fills the cockpit though. Not any room left for many details.

OH I know! I had to cut his feet off to get him to fit in the cockpit etc. And that was after I did such a good job painting his shoes etc lol..

Not having measure, I wonder what is out of scale, my tripe or Lothard. I have a feeling it is my tripe. BUSA. But either way, it is going to look great with him in there. Plus, nowI have an excuse to not have to go much further on cockpit detail, as there is no room! I will just leave him in there all the time. lol

Vert, that's what I do. Just leave him in there! why not? I think he's scaled correctly. I talked with Lyle bout this and his measurements for the body etc are right on. Lothar was a tall dude. Taller than his brother Manfred. I have my guy such that I can take him out if I want to access the interior. But I also need him for ballast. he's behind the CG and I have a heavy engine. So it works out fine.

So how did you go about fastening him to your seat in the cockpit. I wanted to use scale harnesses, but you cannot get under his arms. I am not going to glue him, as he needs to be removable.

Here's what I did.. I put strong magnets in his butt and in the seat. At first I thought it would be enough force to keep him in. On later inspections I thought maybe it wasn't strong enough. So..I cut a slot between the arm and the body on both sides. Then a Velcro strip is mounted to each side of the seat base. This strip is slipped through the slots and joined around his stomach area. Keeps him safe and he's removable. It's not Perfectly scale now but.. ITS OK! lol

I thought about cutting slits between his arms and body. That seems like the only way to safely keep him in. I will go with that method. May not use velcro, possibly the scale straps GTM supplies with his seat hardware.

oh that would work too.. I think I have some also.. forgot about them! I thought since he already has straps it might not look ok but the Velcro doesn't look great either lol.

Interesting, in that the one thing I would have recommended to Lyle on the Lothar pilot is to omit the straps that are part of the figure. It seems many would like to use the scale harness, and having both present would be redundant for the scale snobs! I was just going to use the lap belt portion. Certainly do not want hime falling out during those inverted passes! lol

Vert, Glenn doesn't supply the Harness kit any longer. Im not sure if anyone does.. I don't think so? So its ok that he comes with all the belts I think.

Ya you don't want him falling out! lol

So how did you go about cutting those slots under his arms for the straps? Don't tell me your Dremel, mine just crapped out a few weeks ago and have not replaced it! lol

Kinda too bad about GTM not providing the straps. The main thing would be the brass fittings, the strap itself was just a ribbon from fabric store. The straps I have from GTM are exactly the same size as the ones sculpted into Lothar by Lyle. I mean, they look identical! Both of those guys do great work.

For anyone in need, one of these may work in a pinch. I have the 1/5th German set for my TA 152 I am building, and they are pretty nice. http://www.iflytailies.com/store/coc...ies/harnesses/

I used an exacto knife #11 The body is not that stiff or difficult to cut through. Just give it a try.
