Default First TAMIYA tank_Leopard 2a6

Hello All,

Want to share my first TAMIYA tank with you. Got this from ebay with a bargain price. It came with 50% assembled and I did another 50% with painting job. I use Futaba 6J with all functions working except lights and engine ON/OFF.

Did take any photos of assembling as I didn’t start from beginning. Only thing I modified was the ball bearings. Was looking metal arms and idler adjusters but didn’t have much money to spend.

Went to the forest near by, had few minute running and unfortunately didn’t bring fully charged batteries!!!!.

Any comments and suggestions are welcomed and appreciated.

Enjoy.

Rock

Thanks all. I will add some weathering effects and a camo netting next week.

Extremely lucky to start with the Leo as first Tamiya tank.

Very nice runner, strong and quite robust.

You may never go back to lesser technology!

i wish i could find someone to paint mine. i fail at art hard. just dont have the artistic hand to free hand anything.

so it sports a flat german grey paint now. it is somewhat accurate as thats what the germans used in the 60s on everything armored, no?

its an awesome tank with some horrible glaring weaknesses and design flaws. it depends on your use if you will ever run into them.

pull the speaker out and put twin batteries in the hull. then enjoy a day of fun! im now at 13000mah 3s lipos for main and the thing runs for hours, + 3000mah 2s for the turret and gun. but please dont use 3s on the stock box, you will burn it.

The paint i used was based on the manual provided by Tamiya but different paint manurfacture.

Tamiya suggests using its own spray paints but unfortunately it was hard to find them in my city. I decided to use humbrol spray paints plus tamiya XF paints.

To make the camo homogeneous, the key was to paint the 'dirty colour' all over the tank before washing.

To make a realistic washing, I mixed my own washes. A simple wash was a mixture of Zipper oil with oil paints. Since I start playing models, I use Zipper oil for my washing. It evaporate very quickly and won’t damage ur paint. Any wash you could use up, you can then just 'burn' it.

Tank is running quick smooth so far and I am planning to give a harsh playing this weekend. No playground I can play unless I go to the forest or beach..

I will post more photos once i got them.

Cheers,

Rock

Enjoy the Leo Rock. They are a great tank. I loved the sounds and speed. I had mine for a few years and battled with it for about a year. It so out-classed the WW II tanks that I stopped using it. At Danville I would only use it if the opposing team had a Leo too. Just to keep things fair. It did great in the country but was limited by the gun length and rear turret overhang in the city. The reversed driving drove me nuts. I sold it last year. I miss racing around with it, but not battling it. Love those T-07 Leo sounds....WOW. Good luck with yours!!!
