Have you glued a hardwood dowel in the end of the tubes for the bolts? If not, you can do that and drill and tap it for the current bolt size.

Also, I'd go for a GBR-Jets CAT for your UAT.
Clever idea Mark....I never thought of that.

Craig,

Yeah, works well and gives sooo much more than a 2mm thick ali tube wall for things to bite into.

Cheers,
Mark

Any build thread for Tomahawk Futura 1.9m please? Need it badly...

I purchased one built, then changed quite a bit of the internals, I'll post some pics. Love the quality of this kit!

Yup Mark my friend thats a great idea. To insert a wooden log and then dril grooves for the same screws. My assembly man is suggesting to pour some aeropoxy inside the tube and then later drill grooves...

Hi Guys,

With your experience with the Futura 1.9m and a Jetcat 140, do you thing I can fly it on a 85m long Grass runway?

By the way, what are the wheels size?

Thank you very much,
Pierre

Hmm, they should line up pretty evenly...they do on my 2.5 Futura. I would probably just split the difference. Are they the same on both wings?

Left Aileron:- If we center it with flap, it slightly raises Vs tip
Right Aileron:- If we center it with flap, it slightly goes down Vs tip:

If you increase the front strut a little to get better AOA then you'll have no problem. Mine gets off the deck in about 25m with a K140. Landing will be fine as well as long as you use a lot of flap and have brakes (obviously). Grass will slow you down a lot anyway.

In that case, I would probably just line them both up with the flaps. I think it's more likely the flaps (fully retracted) are positioned correctly and the tips are off a little. Shouldn't make a big difference in flight and a little (if any) aileron trim might be needed.

Where did everyone order from? (Dealer?)

Here are the responses I received from asking for a quote of a 2.5 futura from tomahawk:

Hi Andrew

Depending on the level you want determins the price.
A bare bones kit is around 6k. A fully painted and pre built kit ready for fitout is around 11k.

Phil Celima

Sorry you think im being vague, in this day in age most people do a lot of research long before they commit to a jet kit of this caliber.
The website
http://tomahawk-design.de/
Has all the info you need and there is also a price list.

Mate, its a Sunday afternoon here. Lets see how enthusiastic you are on your day off, dealing with arrogant people not human enough to give detail what do you expect.
Look at your own vagueness, only now in your smart ass reply do you mention Canada as the destination.

Phil Celima

I'm not sure if I should still be looking at dealing with this f'in company!...?

Gotz at Vogelsang Aeroscale. Good communication and followed through as promised. Not sure if Peter at Altecare still imports for tomahawk or not, but he is very helpful too and can offer good input on this topic.

I just startet the build (got the model yesterday), and would like to know if I need to drill and tap my horizontal stabs/tube(s), or if mine is modified for an other solution? Can`t find any info on the CD...

thanks,Kim

Kim,
Congrats on your new aquisition. I really have enjoyed mine.
Yes you need to drill and tap the stab tubes. Some guys have permanently fixed one stab to the tubes and drilled the other stab. I drilled both stabs, but only ever undo one side for transportation/storage.
Ali started a good thread on this model some time back that will provide more tips than the CD will.

Hope this is helpful.

Kim,
Regarding the Stab Tubes, I turned a piece of High density polyethelene,( cutting board material) and pushed it into the end of the tube. Then drill and tap for screws, The poly gives you solid material and helps prevent the screws from backing out. Do this near the ends and not close to the fuselage, don't want to weaken the tubing.
You are going to love this model. Mine flys great on a P-80se , in fact I have just ordered the large one from Gotz , hopefully will be here by the new year.

Good tip Shepp I wil "measure twice - drill once", and hopefully hit dead center of the tube).

I have a few scale jets, and wanted a sport model that is hassel free...no scale cockpit, doors, weathering etc. I was one of those who never saw myself as a Futura buyer, but for some reason, I am now smiling every time I see it

I am building it as light as possible, and have the pleasure of choosing between my VT80 (8kg) and B100F (12kg). Have not decided yet, but with 2 liter fuel omboard, AUW with the VT80 will be 10,5 kg.

Stab done

I understand that most of you fly with the CG at 20-25mm behind the wing tube. The fueltank is suppose to be installed forward of the CG, and I wonder how much this affects the pitch trim in flight?

If so, is anyone using a different fuel tank(s) to adjust for the shifting of the CG?

I balanced mine upright using the " string sling" technique. I balanced at 10 mm behind the wing tube and it flys nice I know that many have moved cg aft to 20 mm but I put mine like the instructions shows. may move it aft later.

I have now seven flights with my Futura, powered by a VT80 (8kg/18lbs), and AUW with full tank is just over 10kg. I fly from hard surface, and find the jet well powered (compared to my other 5 jets).
Gear down and full flaps (90mm, manual states 80mm), I fly comfortable at 1/2 throttle. I have read that others need 75% throttle in this configuration with a JC P100. That might be if the AUW is much heavier, but the Futura can fly very slow.

After seven flights, the only trimming was 2 clicks of aileron. The model is trimmed for level flight at 60-70% throttle, but will climb when full power/speed increase. Have read somewhere here that this might be a thrust tube issue, but is it perhaps an airfoil thing?

Now I need to get it painted. For the first testflights, I just threw some decals/stickers on for visual orientation. I might go for a Rothmans/Renault scheme, any suggestions are welcome

Thanks for all the info/replies I got here. I dialed down the aileron throws a bit, and CG is 20ish mm behind the main spar.

Freehand scheme applied by a graffiti artist to my Futura today. Came out better than the original concept on paper! Looking forward to getting it airborne again.
