Thank you, look forward to meeting you in Ky. Btw what size runway were you flying off of in that video?
Hey Joe my field is 600 feet long. I have also flown from 500 and that was fine also. Not sure if I would go any smaller then 500 though.

Wondering what most of you are using for a full flap setting. The manual says to use 2 5/8 inches ..... but that is only about 30 degrees. Is it purposely set to be low for some aerodynamic reason ...... or would 40-43 degrees be better ?

Thanks. Bob

I'll check mine tomorrow but I have less than what the book recommends. I also have a quarter inch
up aileron for crow really helps the landings a ton. You can see the landing in at the end of the video in the link posted on the last page.

Brian that is exactly how mine looked.

Glad you got a tam pipe already. Are you going to bring it to Kentucky? I think 5 yellow F22s so far are going.
Not a Yellow but love to fly with you guys at KY, how many are there gonna be?

Cheers,
Barry

Yes Barry we need to work on our formation flying BTW how the heck did you get another one built so fast?

I know 4 yellows for sure will be their. One of the 5 did not get his built in time. I will be doing the maiden on one before the event powered by a kingtech 180.

Barry I have set a goal for myself to put on 50 flights during the event to show how great this engine is. I will be their Monday morning and hope to get in around 12 flights on day one.

Yeah, had Henry put it together in 2.5 weeks, nice to be operating KingTech, not that the factory pays for my jets, but at least to the wify, it's all business expense! Now, I only need at least 50 more flights to dial it in. [X(]

See you gentlemen real soon!

Regards,
Barry

Had a great week in Kentucky!!!
I did not make 50 flights got to tired.
But I did make 44 great flights! The new tires worked great. They are showing little wear after the 44 flights this last week and the other flights I had at my home field and topgun. Joeseph suggested adding crow and its a must have on this plane. It lands so much better with it and helps doing high alpha flybys.

On the takeoffs now I use full elevator on the roll out with thrust vectoring to get the nose up faster. It take offs much better but you need to be quick on the sticks not to over rotate. In this video you can see the take off and a landing with crow not long after that.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UzyqGndwh9A

I installed some stiffer springs on the mains and nose to help it sit a little higher. I highly recommend this.

We had 2 more yellow F22 pipes fail at the field. So I don't want to hear they are fine.... Just get the Tam pipe and be done with it. I was able to do some formation flying this week with others and was a ton of fun. On the last day the Canadians had theirs with me for a tight in formation pass so I rolled it over for one F22 inverted and the other right side up pass. The crowd loved it.

Was also able to put the maiden and 3 more flights on my friend Hanks F22 with a K180. Needless to say it was ballistic and rock solid. Was already doing deep tailslides on the 3rd flight.

Charles should put me on the payroll I had so many people wanting to put one on order

Gunn,

Hello Shawn. Tried to PM you but its full

Mike who has and F22 ARF had cracks in the joint in the middle. I also had those same cracks. We spent a day fixing Josephs F22 pipe after the outer wall came off I have the huge gash in my finger to prove it lol. His pipe was ok for the week to fly but had other damage inside already so had to inspect it after each flight. He has a tam pipe on order. George also had a pipe failure at the joint in the middle.

I love yellow products and want to build the big F18 next. But I don't want anyone to loose a plane due to pipe failure.

I am over 150 flights now with mine so its a great plane. Not to mention it made it through over 20 dead sticks when I had the old turbine. So its a great plane just DO NOT USE the stock pipe. If you do inspect it after each flight. Look around the middle joint and make sure you press in on it. The engine needs to be removed to inspect it. Its not a question of if it will fail and more when will it fail.

I have one Tam pipe for the Yellow F22 listed in the ads if anyone is interested.

George, I hope the plane is ok - which pipe did you have in there? I thought you replaced the Yellow pipe?

Gun,

Thanks. Got any pics you could send me? I'd like to have as much documentation as possible before I start the up-line conversation.

Shawn check back under post 458 in this thread for some pics of one that failed on MS. His looks just like mine did. Josephs pipe that I helped with over the weekend was missing two small peices that get welded inside the pipe and the outer wall was falling off. Mike Gills ARF pipe looked just like the pics.

Hope that helps Shawn.

Default RE: Yellow F22 Build

Just got home this afternoon what a trip..I have to thank Kris, Mike,George and Hank for all their help during the week. My Raptor wouldnt have been flying at all without these guys. Kris you are the man 44 flights Im surprised thats all, every time I saw you you were going or coming from the flight line with your raptor. You know how to put on a heck of a show with it. I really wanted to fly mine alot more but pulling the engine every time got to be a hassle and even though my pipe was repaired I was still not 100% comfortable flying it.
I didnt want to risk the model and above all I didnt want to risk a failure that would very easily cause complete loss of control of the model. If my model would have gone into the pits and injured someone I could never forgive myself for flying it knowing there was a potential flaw like that.
(Yes my mindset is just like FEJs )
Sean I can certainly vouch for a problem with the Yellow Pipes. My outer wall separated from the pipe requiring repair and the little small patches welded on the top and bottom of the pipe (George pictured them earlier) were also gone.
I also got to inspect Mikes pipe and saw where his was failing.
Just curious who are you going to contact? Its my understanding that Yellow is not manufacturing pipes anymore?

Hi,

You are correct that we're not making pipes anymore, but if there are issues, it's important to know about, document and communicate to potential customers whatever issues you discover. I don't tout Yellow pipes because I'm with Yellow, I tout them because they've been stellar for me and MANY of my customers. What you guys are telling me changes the grade a bit, and I'd like to know. We may not be making pipes anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't want to be aware (and able to help make sure there aren't avoidable incidents).

If someone asks me whether they should buy our warbird gear over Robart, I respond with an unequivocal YES. If they ask me the same question vs Sierra, I say that the Sierra gear are better. That's based on my own experience and my having had my ear to the ground for many years. I have some of these pipes left in stock, and if there is a run of bad ones or some other kind of issue, I won't sell them to people.

Shaun thank you for your efforts in this pipe problem. It may very well save some one an airframe and having upset customers. Well done.

Joseph had to much fun lol!! I keep almost falling asleep at work this week

You are a great stick and fly the F22 well.

Hi,

Have any of you guys put your F-22's through a radar trap? I'm curious about the top end. It looks like it's boogying along on the K-180. Stock VT pipe (which I'm inspecting regularly--so far so good).
