Ultimate Custom Paint: New UltraFlash out of the booth ..
As some of you know, my last UltraFlash was lost last October when it caught fire in the air, and had its toosshie singed off as it rolled out after landing :\ By far this has been my favorite of any sport jet I have ever flown .. Its ridiculously agile, and takes more of a beating with Gs than even my old BobCats used to [8D] ..
Our painter out did himself yet again ( as he usually does ) and threw this together .. The Jet Central Rhino is going inside this jet, as well as the add on pair of saddle tanks for smoke ..

Looks amazing - just fantastic including the cockpit detail!
Any link to the details of what happened to your old plane? sorry for the loss..

Thanks guys
Im not 100% sure what actually caused the fire on the last Ultra Flash, but i suspect it has to do with the smoke system which was just newly installed before the flight on which it lit up. I think i might have had kinked/squeezed one of the smoke fluid tubes between the wing and fuse when bolting the wing on, and the pressure caused one of the lines to pop out of the Festo T fitting. The fire was already going on takeoff inside of the bypass, however i was not aware of it until i pulled vertical, and at the same time my rudder servo pulled left .. I straightened it out, but the rudder kept twitching. I did not know why , but i landed immediately .. (Plane actually lands better full of fuel , lol ) as the jet passed me on landing, i saw the fire in the rear. The moment it stopped rolling, the fire broke out through the rear fuselage. Melted wires ended up shorting the batteries out and this caused another fire up front.
I'm going to definitely be flying this at Farview I just have to squeeze out some more time to get it all rigged up quickly
Visibility is no issue. Unless the sun is low and behind you , any jet really becomes just an outline. My CAI Raptor gets far and small really quickly, and i have never had issues. I like dark colors better also because they are less likely to blend into a cloudy sky .. As for this flash, the bottom has yellow trim, as opposed to the red on top ..

Thanks guys This one will be out tearing holes in the sky soon
I do agree with you on that! .. but when i'm flying it, i can neither tell color or line the Flash is more of an every day beater plane than the Raptor. I do have a 2nd Raptor in kit form that I might beef up and put a P180 inside for some Canada flying some time [8D]

Nice Flash Woj, but still prefer the Raptor lines and scheme!

Yup
This was my last one with the Rhino.

The power is really fun accelerating and plowing through tight turns, The weight/size is no different than older style P80 or P120 turbines .. The only downside is the flight times, and also having a bit more residual thrust at idle when landing ( nothing more crow on the ailerons does not fix )
No i do actually need a turbine for another project I am working on and am debating getting a 180 class engine for that project, or moving the Rhino over , and getting a Chetah (31lbs) for the Ultra Flash .. But i am so used to the power, that i don't want to feel like a downgrade in performance :\ ... lol dilemmas !!

the flight envelope is very interesting on the UF
where is your cg located
i see you are pulling very tight turns , and i feel mine wants to drop a wing when pulling hard on the elevator
thanks

Izzy, my CG was around 20mm back from the recommended point. If you are dropping a wing, it likely you are pulling hard at too low of a speed, and stalling out .. When I plow through a tight turn, throttle always go full as I enter the turn, and even then the plane looses a lot of speed .. ( eventually stalling out ) .. Also another thing , if the CG is back 20mm or so , or more .. ( and even at the recommended CG) and you yank hard elevator , the plane can "plow" through the air so to say... this causes air disruption over the fuse, and basically blanks out the rudder ... inducing a snapping out and coming out inverted .. something you don't want down the deck when you pull hard to go vertical. Dave Shulman pointed this out to me before i flew my first one, and im glad i got the warning .. I played around with this at various speeds, and with enough elevator, that vertical stab definitely gets blanked out. I have thought of making custom ventral fins ( F-16 style ) but its not really needed once you have a good feel for the airframe ..
