Thanx for the flywheel info Syco. I have a buddy with a savage, perhaps I will see if he has a spare flywheel I can test fit.

I am kicking around the pro-line flat iron tires. They are about 4 3/4 diameter instead of the Masher 5". They look good and may mean a bit less body surgery.

missed your post only difference's in the MT2's to my knowledge were the engine, and the material the diffs were made out of. I think the teeth on the diffs were even the same.
For the record the diffs should be going no where soon as the HPI Wheely king uses the same exact differential .

Hi guys,
I am new to this board and have just got two mt2s as a lot on ebay. I have one up and running which is pretty much standard and the second one I am fitting lots of hop up parts to it since it had lots already.
Has anyone on here fitted gpm rear shocks on their mt2? I am having trouble getting them to fit because they are wider bore than the hpi ones and seem to touch the rear hub. Is there some special way of mounting them that I am missing or are they just poorly designed? I am using alluminium rear arms and hubs.

hmm I have the GMP towers, and from what I remember they were almost the exact same size as the stock.


take a pic of what you mean cause I might be thinking your issue is a little different then what I am imagining from what you said

So here is the problem.
The GPM shocks have a larger diameter than the HPI ones.



If I mount them as the HPI ones were mounted they touch the rear hub: -





The only way that I can see to mount them is to put a screw into the arm, but the arms are not threaded all the way through just around half way through:





Has anyone else come across this problem? I can't seem to find any pictures of how other people mounted them and GPM don't provide any installation information.
Any help would be appreciated.

odd does it do that with the stock arms?
I personally hated the aluminum arms as I found a few things to be outta whack(and after one whack they destroyed my rear hub)

Sam, my only thought aside from your screw idea would be to find a longer shaft/hingpin that will give you more room to move the shock out.

Thanks for the suggestions. To be fair to GPM they replied to me with installation photos. It looks to me like the shaft that came with the arms was not long enough because the spacer should go between the arm and the shock to push it out and away from the hub. I have a longer shaft and tried it but the problem now is that they scrape on the inside of the wheel. The only solution to that problem seems to be having positive camber.
I think that these shocks are a no go. I am thinking that I will go back to the HPI aluminium shocks which seem to fit much better.
Apart from that the build is going well, photos to follow!

don't extend the pin it will cause a whole world of troubles for you. try to get a shorter screw for the spot that you have it screwed into now that your best bet.

Just drill and tap the hole all the way through on the arm or if it doesn't go through (it looks like it may stay in the meat of the arm by your picture) just drill and tap it further in.

Decided to "mini monster" my MT2 a bit. Put on some Masher 2k tires, 13tooth clutch bell and painted up a new HPI DSX-2 body for her. She seems to do well with the new setup.

I got my MT2 years ago when they first came out.. Modified it to the nth degree but then its been sitting in a box for about 4 years and i've only ran it twice lol
Such a waste, but i did enjoy building it...

what wing mount is that???

The wing mount is home-made using plastic ball and socket joints with screws and rubber O-rings going through them. Tighten the screws to compress the rubber and it holds the wing firmly in place. If it gets knocked the wing has 4 points of articulation and can move freely on several planes . The idea was to make it crash resistant. I can get proper photo's of the assembly if you need...

An update to my previous posts. I finally got the custom MT2 put together. In the end I decided to ditch the GPM shocks because they really didn't fit well and I go some of the HPI threaded shocks.









I ended having to raise the fuel tank up because the exhaust mount was underneath it. This was as a result of the OS engine having the exhaust port on the other side. I think the solution to this will be to fabricate a custom longer exhaust mount.






I just need to get the RPM sensor for the telemetry installed and break it in!

That is one shiny ass MT2

I would personally go back to the plastic arms though as I had the aluminum ones on mine, and they caused a lot of issues like a broken pin, and breaking the part where they connect to the chassis off from a little jump. And that was only after maybe 15 mins of run time.

I agree with venom about the arms, or maybe your not as hard on you trucks as we are. But it looks good and im glad you got the shock this shorted out
