i fly mine at about 12cm back from the leading edge at the point where wing meets fuselage, i always like flying a little nose heavy and i can make nice and slow scale maneuvers that way without stalling.

I think the 109 Gustav is one of the easiest ESM set I have built. The most complex was the Do 335. But it's up to the builder how much work you will put in these planes

I was leaning this way too....but....the wife noted I have several 109's(h9, cmp, 2x esm 30cc size) while I have no Russian planes. I much prefer the 109, however, I also know what a pain in the arse they can be to get off the ground safely on pavement.

The positives for the 109 are:
1)Love me-109s
2)Love Luftwaffe planes
3)would definitely look nice sitting next to my ESM fw-190D9, ME-110, Do-335 and other assorted smaller German planes...especially at Warbirds over the Rockies
4)I can get a spinner, but from overseas
5)Retracts are available(sierra)
6)Nice big hatch on top for easy access.....I'll probably go electric on this 109 as I don't want to cutup the cowl
7Plug in wings.....I really like this for transporting as well as field assembly

Negatives
1)A total b!!tch to keep straight on hard pavement type surfaces
2)Costs a good deal more then the Mig3
3)I can get a spinner, but mucho $$ from overseas

Mig3 positives:
1)Unique...no one has one(except Vertical and his is a wood kit built "stand 100miles" off scale)
2)Wide landing gear stance. Should be pretty easy to keep straight for takeoffs
3)Slightly smaller at 80"...could use a power 160 on 10s if electric or a dle35
4)Spinner is not a special design...can use a spitfire, p-40 or p-51

Mig 3 negatives
1)No retracts available yet specifically for this plane. Although being standard actuation, shouldn't be too hard to find something to fit.
2)Smaller size then the 109, not as imposing
3)Its not german
4)As far as I can tell...its a one piece wing
5)Have not seen in any pics where it has a hatch
6)Meh...its Russian lol
7)Even If do get the 109, eventually, Id probably STILL want to get this just because its different...don't see them ever

Yeah, that spinner is an issue... I wanted to do another one but that right there is the reason I just bought a Meister-scale BF109 kit. For the time it takes me to find the spinner for this ARF, I could have the Meister kit built! And knowing that I'd make numerous changes to it, it was only logical for me to go this route.

Given your pints, I would still go with the 109, it's just sexier then the Mig.. and that would do it for me, plus I think you'd be happier in the long run The other thing is that, no one has really done any reviews on the mig, the 109 has been proven. I'd hate to get the plane and then not like it..

I had the mig on order but for the last reason, I canceled it and will wait until I hear good things on it and then, I'll capture it..lol We can always change the German aspect of it..

I decided to get the ESM ME-109G. Its always been my favorite plane. I ordered the plane from VQwarbirds and added in the Sierra gear for it at the same time.

As far as the me-109 spinner. I ordered one from bigplanes in the Netherlands. I got the two blade spiral version, although they list that they have all of them in stock...aluminum 2/3 blade - spiral 2/3 blade.

I will probably go electric on it unless I can find a fuel motor that will fit in the cowl without cutting much. The lines of the cowl are too damn sexy to screw up with a cylinder head hanging out the bottom.
I'll need to look back at that one plane in this thread with the Laser 300v. I don't mind glow engines, in fact I prefer the sound and smell over gas.

Ive already got a full body pilot...found an Erich Hartmann on ebay for $35 a couple weeks ago. Usually they sell for like $100+. Also have the 1/5th size seat harness from Iflytailies. I just need to get a cockpit kit(or merely make one myself) and flight yoke plus gauges.

Wheels will be standard 4.5" ESM aluminum hub until I get it flown. Don't want to spend a ton on Glennis only to prang the plane up.

I should get the plane sometime next week depending on how soon VQ gets it shipped. I will not be able to get to it right away though as Im still finishing the Vantex Spitfire and have that other Vantex plane to build after that. I just need to get off my arse and get busy building

Ive also been starting to look at the Moki 360 inline twin. It'll swing a 24x8 or 24x10. I can get that motor for $570 whereas the Laser 300v, its 555 UK pounds or $857.
The moki is a 2 stroke though. As a twin, it'll sound better then just a single, but not near as good as a 4 stroke.

I was checking ebay and just my luck, one of the moki 360's sold a week ago for $405 NIB. Damnit

I just received this kit from Troy Built models. Spinner was backordered but found one in Europe. It should be arriving soon. I'm also using gen 3 electric retracts with Sierra's 5.25" 109 wheels. I'm using one of those four servo connections on one connector so wing hookup should be a breeze. For power I'm using the DLE 55 rear exhaust.

Sure,

With two flap servos, one aileron and one retract it makes for alot of connections. So im trying this from Thunderbolt RC in Canada....
