Nick,

I have had zero problems with the hinges included with the kit. All and all I think the Vanquish is a great plane.

Steve,
Thank you, that is great news. Did you also gap seal with Blenderm tape?
Thanks, Nick

Nick,

On my first Vanquish (Yellow and Red) I used Blenderm and on my second Vanquish(Blue and Pink) I used white Econo Cote to seal the gaps.
Enjoy your build you will love this plane.

I am using the MPI 12g Hi-Current No-Spark Arming Switch with Deans connectors. Works very well me. I bought from Radical RC

It is actually pre-wired so you just pick a location to mount it that works well for your batteries and esc.

Yeah I saw that, but I changed the ESC from a single male connector to add the series connectors.

Will post a pic of what I did soon.

Ok. I just used a series adapter on the ESC but your way may be better long term.

As a follow up to my post last month about the included hinges, I have been meaning to mention that when I went to instal the hinges a couple of them were tight. On inspection I found that the hinge rivet had been crimped off center. I then discovered that the rivet was aluminum. I also found that there was play between the pivet and plastic molding. I have replaced them with Robart, these have no slop and the rivet is made of steel. I assume that the steel will offer a better bearing surface.

You do not need a spark arrestor. Most people don't use them, it is a preference option.

can't you make a spark arrestor, buy placing a capacitor inline with the (+) line??
I didn't think it was anymore complicated than that?

The spark is actually an ARK? or do I know didly?

You can make one. It is a resistor, not a capacitor. The idea is that you are making the connection from the battery to the ESC 'slowly' - you want the capacitors on the ESC to fill up slowly rather than instantaneously to avoid the ark (and yes, it is an ark). The resistor prevents the current from flowing to the ESC too quickly.

The commercially available spark arrestors are just an extra small set of +ive and -ive leads with a resistor and a momentary action switch. Here is a link that shows how to make one:
http://rc.runryder.com/helicopter/t547501p1/

Castle Creations has a comment about the 'spark being your friend' - please note that they tell you this so you are not afraid of the spark. a loud snap is somewhat of an indicator that the capacitors in the ESC are working properly, but it is not critical nor is it enough to tell whether or not your ESC is working properly.

Well, just came back from the D8 BARKS Pattern contest. The Vanquish flew excellent and with the Lords help I was able to win all 6 rounds in Masters.

I have noticed quite a bit of interest in installing a Hacker A60-7s into the Vanquish.
I have put together a step by step guide showing how I have done this to my two Vanquish.
Here is hoping that this will be of some interest and help to those wanting to use the Hacker
motor.

I want to be clear that there are motors out there that will bolt right into the Vanquish without
the need for any modification. I have been impressed with the way these motors power the Vanquish.
I also am impressed with how the A60-7S powers the Vanquish. I am posting this just to help open
up the option of using another more affordable motor.

This being my first time at starting a new post I hope I did it correctly.

Thanks all,

Steve Hosner

I have a question or two:
I have just got to the rudder horn installation. Are there any tips for this, please? Is 30 minute epoxy the best way to go, over say CA?
When opening up the slots is it better to remove material away from the hinge, towards the rear of the plane?
The instructions show the support plates with the opening towards the hinge. Would it be stronger to have the opening towards the ear of the plane?

Any advise will be very valued, thank you in advance,
Nick Marson

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to buy a Vanquish prefer ready to fly but open to any options. I am on the west coast near Sacramento. I sent a message to the 2 models listed in the classifieds but though it was worth posting here to see if someone may consider selling their setup.

Hope to hear from someone!

Thanks!
