Hello Guys, well over the last couple of days I have produced a mold for the elevator. Now its wax a few times and make some parts to see how they look. Also I now have another distraction which is a set of molds for a 1/4 scale P-51 thanks to Tmac48. I have given them a clean and a couple of coats of wax and they look very shiny. I will have to pull a fuse soon to see how it looks. Cheers Trent

I wonder if you will fly 1/4 size first.
I hope that's not the case, you didn't take the spinners!
Lets know when you need them.

Good luck with it all!

Hello again, I hope you fly your 1/4 mustang first as it would be a shame not to see it fly. I would love to grab a spinner, that would be great.I made the first part out of the elevator mold and it came out pretty good. There are a couple of small blemishes in the mold which transfers into the part but its only minor and a light sand cleans it up.

Hello once again, Ozjet I tried to email but it got sent back as the email address is not working, so I tried to P.M. you via this forum. I have layed up and pulled a fuselage from the 1/4 molds over the last few days. I have decided to turn this one into a plug so I can add some more surface detail and remove a few imperfections from the surface of the mold. I will also add a vertical fin.

Hello again dudes,
I have been focussing on other parts of this model such as foam cores. I purchased some foam and started cutting cores to now have 5 wing sets and 1 tailplane set. I ended up making mistakes and wasting some foam but have minimized the mistakes and now am getting consistent results. I still need to sort the canopy making but one thing at a time.

Hi there Trent, I would be interested in a fuse of the 1/4 scale Stang when finished. I would like to have a go at covering it with Alloy and if this turns out ok would go ahead a do the whole model, anyway you are doing a fine job on both the 1/5 & 1/4 variants.
Keep up the good work.
Regards tmac.

Thanks Tmac48 and Thunderboat42, it still continues to be enjoyable. Terry when I get around to pulling you a fuselage I can make it light and that way you can add extra reinforcement to your preferred locations and allow for the extra weight of the aluminium skin you plan to attach. Cheers

Trent, the weight of the Alloy finish should not be any more than a painted finish, not a considerable amount anyway.

I m thinking 3w110i and a reduction unit for power.  Yeah, flight metal is a prerequisite.  Awesome project.

trent, there is a chap up on the Sunshine coast who specialises in pulling canopies. If you can get him a smaple he could do that for you. He used to advertise in Airborne

Hello again, I have done a little more on getting the Mustang mach 1 built. I have purchased a spinner and found the profile of the front needed a little shaping to get the front to blend in. So a bit of cutting, heating and filling got the desired shape without to much hard work. I have placed the original dirty canopy in place along with the spinner to get an overall feel for the side profile whick looks pretty good. I also have decided to make a new mold for the elevators as the finish of the first was not as good as I wanted. Cheers

Hello Ozjet, yes I did get the spinners and thanks for sending those. I think Tmac mentioned that he maybe able to source the back plates to go with the spinner. Cheers Trent.

Trent I had a mould that we used to have a blank cast off then a machinist used this blank to make the back plate . All this was very $$$$$$ infact by the time I had the blank for the nose cone and back plate machined, spinners spun and one spinner finished the whole deal cost about 1500$.
