So a 5S 5000mAh Osiris with a 16-inch prop is no good?

You're gonna be hard pressed to find an electric with a 13.5-inch prop!

But maybe that's the idea... limit it to glow only?

Hi Bob, I think the expectation is that an Osiris would fly in current AMA classes, our NSRCA sched, not the CPA side of the contest.

Sounds like the CD is going with the SPA electric limits or something like that.

Chris...
Could be Chris, I wasn't there when they set the limits for classic models. I do recall some discussion aroundCPA, SPA, or something in-between; but not having flown pattern at that time, I was not much help to the club leadership when they were deciding which era models to include. That said, the LVRCS has been a pioneering club when it comes to electric flight through the years, so as much as it look may like a glow-thing, that's probably not the spirit or intent; I guess someone just had to draw a line somewhere and figured the more modern electrics would fly NSRCA?

Maybe the CD will comment, if not here, I will pass along anything I hear along those lines. Cheers!

This will only affect the Classic side of the contest Joe: we will also fly AMA pattern following current MA rules using the NSRCA schedules for 2013. Thanks for asking!

We didn't have "kill" switches in 1981. Does it make sense to have one for a gas or nitro airplane even with 2013 rules intended for electric?

Hi Sal!  I am hoping that Dale will have some clarifications for us and I will post anything along those lines if that comes my way.

Well, it sounds like there is some interest in this kind of classic contest, held alongside a contemporary pattern contest, in our area.  Would be terrific if we could get an idea of how many are thinking of coming with a show of hands here on this thread that I can pass along to the CD.  Thanks all!

Hi Dana,

Looking at the club website for directions but that page and several others keep coming up blank. Hopefully, I am the only one having this issue.

Hi Anthony, not sure about the club site, however, here are the directions on the flyer. Most would pick-up 33 from I-80 / 209 in the Stroudsburg area; or I-78 in the Easton area. Hope this helps...

Directions from Route 33:

1. Exit Route 33 at the Hecktown Road Exit
2. Turn Right on Hecktown Road (West)
3. Take Hecktown Rd about 0.2 Miles
4. Turn right onto Country Club Road (North). 5. Take Country Club Road about 0.6 miles
6. Turn left on Newburg Road (West).
7. Take Newburg Road about 0.8 miles.
8. Turn right on Gradwohl Switch Road (North). 9. Take Gradwohl Switch Road about 0.5 miles 10. Stay straight onto a gravel driveway (LVRCS

club sign)
11. Follow gravel road to field.

The GPS address for the entrance to the field is 3140 Gradwohl Switch Road, Easton, PA

The coordinates for the entrance road intersection are 40.79059N, 75.31083W (dd.ddddd format).

For those who haven't been there- this is a nice field to fly at - and there is a nice hobby shop in the area, Trains and Lanes Hobby.

In CPA there has not been any limit set for battery, prop etc... no one has made a complaint from the West Coast and they are flying a lot of the electrics powered by electrics... In the CPA newsletter several of the guys have shared there plane set up including Jim Quinn the North East CPA Regional Director. The 1976 AMA rule book is when electrics where added for power of a plane.

SPA is the group that has the electric rule for there plane, and yes some of the set up's are very close to there rules... That maybe something the CPA membership will work on this winter.

Looking forward to report and photo's for the newsletter.. if there is anything the CPA can do to help the LVRCA contest let us know.

The electric limits are intended to match but not exceed glow performance. Limiting the prop size removes the unlimited vertical performance that we have all come to enjoy but only dreamed of in the 80's. An electric conversion of an 80's era plane would not have ground clearance for anything larger than a 12" prop anyway.

Regarding "kill" switches, this only applies to electrics. I would also go so far as to say that if your airplane has a battery hatch or canopy on the top of plane and you can easily and quickly reach the battery without turning the plane upside down, then the battery plug can be considered the kill switch. The real concern is an airplane were the battery located in what used to be the fuel tank compartment, and the wing needs to be removed to get to it. In that case it is important to have a way to quickly and safely disconnect the battery from the outside of the plane.

Dana, pretty sure I'll be there but I have to take care of some domestic chores. A week before the Nats is a bit scrunchy on the schedule!

Is there camping at the field?

Yes camping but no hook-ups.  There is AC too, but a gen will be handy in case of a big turnout.

I added a pattern category to the LVRCS photo gallery and added some vintage pictures. You can take a look here [link=http://www.lvrcs.com/content/coppermine/index.php?cat=12]Pattern photo gallery[/link]

or view slideshows here [link=http://www.lvrcs.com/content/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=48&pid=936&slideshow=5000]1981 slide show[/link]
or here [link=http://www.lvrcs.com/content/coppermine/displayimage.php?album=49&pid=949&slideshow=5000]1982 slide show[/link]

Also, I finally got the Aurora out of retirement and put 3 flights on it today.

Groovy slide shows! I don't recognize the runway, is that Braden?  Anyway, for those who have not flown with us recently, the current field is grass, not hard surface.

The Nats bound pilots will want to know that the Current classes will be flown off a single flight line and that any 2m in the air will be the only model in the air at any given time.  Depending on the turn-out for the Classic classes, Dale may run 2 flight lines, but these will alternate rounds with AMA so that pilots can fly both modern and classic as they please.

We have a nice number of pilots "pre-registered" or who expressed an interest in the contest, but not too many, so should be a fun, relaxing, and enjoyable weekend of precision aerobatics. The club will prepare lunch on Sat, I believe, for modest donations to cover cook out costs.  Generators are encouraged for those charging 10S so please don't leave those at home.  There are restaurants in the area including a newish Longhorn steakhouse for a nice dinner Saturday night, as well as other options.

While the field will be open for practice Friday afternoon, please not too early as the grass cutting and lining of the box will proably not be done before 2-3pm and we will not have exclusive use on Friday evening. Please ask anything that I am forgetting to share out. Thanks all!

I'll be there flying AMA Masters. Wish I had kept one of my old 60 size ships (Aurora, LA-1, or Dash 5)
