Anyone familiar/using this radio? Undecided between this and the Spektrum. Looks like the screen on the Futaba leaves something to be desired although I have only used Futaba all these years.

I sold my 14MZ to purchase a new 14SG... while some might think this was a "down grade" it wasn't.
The 14SG display is MUCH easier to read. Battery life is superior to the 14MZ and the SG uses commonly available batteries... not a special and expensive Camcorder battery.
The SG has telemetry and supports ALL Futaba signal formats.
Programming the SG is not difficult, but having owned and flown Futaba for 10 years now, starting with the 9C, 10C, 12Z, 14MZ, and now the SG, I have learned their formats. However, I find the 14SG easier to program than my 14MZ.
Because I did NOT like my 14MZ, I had only two choices.... a $3000 18MZ or the $550 14SG... it was a no-brainer.
I have only been flying my new SG for a couple of weeks, but I like it

Thats good news to me. I have been flying (and still do) the 8ua on 72 for about 14 years now. Never had a signal issue. Ever. Still have the same battery... which surprises me. Programming is not bad now that I have used it so long.... This sounds like a good choice for an upgrade. I think I paid more than $500 for the 8ua 14 yrs ago. I use the 9402 servos... that are capable of even better performance on the newer systems.

bought the 14SGA 3 months ago... so far I love it.
screen works well both inside and outdoors... It can program pretty much anything I can think of, so far I'm very happy. I've used it with both FASTtest and S-FHSS receivers with 0 issues, switch between planes takes but a second....
I honestly have 0 complaints... very glad I bought it.

I had a small issue with my 14 SG, but once I fixed it the radio has been flawless and feels wonderful to fly with..
Here are some vids about the problem and then how perfect the radio is after the problem was fixed...

Thank you for the video's ... VERY Usefull information. I think your was also made on a Monday after a Holiday. I purchased a 4 ch for my daughter to learn with and it also had a screw missing and the throttle was apart on the inside.
RE the Spektrum will probably be a DX7 for the BNF's ... There is a good write up in Model Aviation magazine this month the 14SG. Seems like a great transmitter for the price. One one person at our local field (other than me) is still on Futaba.
My 8UA has been with me for many years.. I still use it and probably the only person still using 72 mhz

Unless you need a 14Ch radio. Buy a 10C. The programming is MUCH easier, and the LED is better.

The 10 looked better, but when I felt those bearing gimbals on the 8FG..WOW... I literally spent almost an hour swapping between the two and finally decided I couldn't live without the Bearing Gimbals on the 8FG... Never regretted that decision, the 8 has been great.. but I still think the 10 looks way better.. I think it actually looks better than the 14SG also but once you are a Bearing Gimbal snob you can't go back...

I never noticed that much difference in the gimbals myself, but I Used a 9C for many years before getting the 10C so it felt familiar to me. After helping a friend program his 8FG I was disappointed in the software. Admittedly you fly way more than you program, but I was still disappointed. So when I saw a 14 and realized it was much like the 8 I was not impressed. I am sure it's a fine radio, it's just not my cup of tea.

The biggest advantage of the 14 SG (over the 8FG) is that it also has telemetry and support for all the Futaba Protocols / Fasstest / FASST / FHSS etc....(like the 18MZ) the 8FG is FASST only.
