I wanted a Fuse jig before I start building so I spent some time in CAD and came up with what I think is the Best Fuse Jig design to date.

I looked at and downloaded several fuse jig plans and don't like the Idea of having to store a 4 ft long jig with carriage bolts sticking out everywhere. Also after a while the square holes from the carriage bolts round out and then you have problems with tighening up everthing.

This jig is extendable by adding 24in extentions at a time. For small peanut scale use One 24" inch section. Use Two 24" sections for fuse lengths up to 48". If you need longer just add another 24" section.

I'll be using this Jig for the Classic Pattern Plane kits I have first then for the rest.

It's very easy to make and you can get all the wood at home depot at least for the base..

I chose to use 1/8" baltic birch for the braces and 1/4" Baltic birch and 1/2" Maple veneered partical board for the base on mine.

All the braces are adjustable in and out on the fuse sides as well as laterially forward and back.

Bryan, I will be reusing a very basic jig that I used on my Blue Angel build here shortly. I will post a photo.

Heres the finished jig for Jigging Fuses. The Cub fuse was aquired already put together

The simple design is based on 1/4-20 threaded rod and you can easly change or add new functions to the base as needed.

The braces are 5" tall x 4" wide. A 6" wide fuse can be built on it.

I'm working on add a wing jig to it.

The CG version just uses threaded Rod as the posts and one 24" base.

It will accommodate fuse widths up to 23 inches.

This was the really cool part as I didn't plan on it being used for finding incidence.

Because of the unversal design I was able to add 2 more CG rods then two wood cross pieces to make a stable jig for measuring the wing and stab incidences.

I had a heck of a time checking and then setting up the correct inidences on my Kaos before as I use a make shift jig that consisted of blocking up the rear wheels, Was a PINA.

The threaded rod allows adjustment up and down on both ends to get the thrust line correct then the incidences are easily found and adjusted as needed.

David I took pictures of the entire jig building process with the idea of doing build thread on the jig build in the kit building or tips forum. When I saw that you were doing a MK Cosmo build thread I got excited about your build and wanted to share it with you. It took several days to make and assemble, but it comes apart and stores in a 12" x 24" space.

I started with a 4' x 8' sheet baltic birch and 4' x 8' sheet vneered ply. So I went ahead and cut it all up for extra jigs if needed.

If you want a set, Two 24" bases, 16 braces, thread rods and hardware PM me. They will ship easily. Iwill have to make it as they are not put together. Jsut raw materials at this point.

I wanted to make the jig as user friendly as possible and wanted to be albe to gather all the components needed to build it at Home Depot..

Except for the T-Track I managed to find all the wood and hardware needed for the Jig at HD. The only thing was I would have to make alot of small parts that consisted of drilling, tapping, and cutting.

So I looked around online and was able to find the hardware needed so I could concentrate on the main portions of the jig.

Hi Guys,

I looked up T-Track too. I also noticed that the vendor was offering "special" 1/4" x 2-1/2" brass flanged bolts to use with it for $9.95 each. A closer look at the "special" bolts revealed that they are closet bolts which are available from any plumbing wholesaler for .25 each. Kind of makes you wonder where they source their other items!

In all my web searching for t-track I never saw that site. Post the addressif you can.

I didn't use toilet flange bolts on mine. On the Contrary I make my own when needed.

Hi,

The website was. Woodcraft.com. I should point out that they were using brass bolts which might cost a dollar each. The cheap ones are plated steel which would be fine for our use.

I checked that site and at least they were offering 10 bolts for that price. Home depot does carry a package of 2 brass flange bolts and associated hardware for about $4.

Still to high IMO for jig use.

I cold not find anyone who had a bolt larger than 3 1/2 inches.

So I searched around and found a suppler of T-slot nuts. Now with 1/4-20 threaded rod I can have any length I want plus the benefit of double locking on the bottom of the track and against the upper rail.

This makes it nice as you can lock down the threaded rod in straight then attach the fuse brackets and lock them down with a fender washer and wing nut. Real slick.

Here's another possibility: 80/20 extruded aluminum stock. It is bolt together raw material for commercial erector sets.  I think the 1" square stock (inexpensive at $29 per 97" stick) should be perfect for models rigs. Free shipping too

The latest update is that I'm making the jig bases completely out of 3 sandwiched layers of Baltic Birch to cut down on the shipping weight. OIher than the t-slot track I have enough Baltic Birch to make 5 more jigs. If any one wants one of these jigs PM me for cost.

I use a radial arm saw to cut the parts so you get real nice and straight 90degree angles on the braces and the bases.
