Thanks Dean. No story really. Mike McEvilley ordered a custom scheme and Jan saw it. She said "You should have your own scheme too". Who am I to argue? I told her I wanted yellow because it shows up well and she designed it around that. Its unique for sure. I think it actually makes the plane look bigger too for some reason. Can't wait to get it in the air. She's a graphic designer at Texas A&M so no telling where it came from. I look at it as my tribal tatoo since I'm too chicken to get a real one.

Completed mine and flew it last weekend. It came all white, the color scheme is auto wrap style decals instead of paint. This plane flies great. The best flying pattern plane I have ever had. Powered by a YS 1.70, Hyde mount.

Fixed Wing

The Speed Controller mounts easily under the Chin Cowl. Lots of space and easy access.

A battery tray was installed using the center section of the Gear Plate as a mounting base. A rear support for the tray is shown in the picture being glued in place. This support weighs just 3 grams and is a piece of 3/8" balsa laminated on two sides with .007" carbon fiber.

Hey Dean,

Are the blue marks for the "end point" position of your battery to balance? Where are you placing your CG, at the back of the wing tube? What are the weights of your batteries to set your CG?

* Yes, blue marks are for battery positioning.
* Yes, starting with CG at back of wing tube and will potentially go rearward from there.
* Using Zippy Compacts 5,000 mAh (not sponsored - LOL). Lightest one is 1191 grams and heaviest is 1202 grams.

Todd Blose is finishing mine up because Scott's too scared to set the motor in properly. Mine came in the second batch so I was lucky to get the sub-rib in the stab halves to mount the elevator servos parallel to the thrust line, thus having them hidden in the stab. Bryan was able to do this in the second batch because he knew we could get the proper CG on the electric Shinden mounting the two servos in the stab. On the first batch, he was concerned about this and counted on just using one servo and a pushrod system. Xtreme Composites did a good job with these and started putting that in there.

I can't believe how large this fuse is. We're using the Neu 1513/2Y motor with a Hyde soft-mount and it looks so small in that big fuse. We decided to mount the ESC similar to Dean but we are being very weight concious as Masters has ZERO tolerance for the 5000g rule (stupid if you ask me when FAI even has 1% but that's a different thread). He decided to cut out all of the area at the back of the chin cowl and it actually saved 15g just in that! We're waiting on the 3 1/2" spinner now so that Todd can set the motor properly and then that's it. He's going to do a carbon fiber battery tray similar to yours. More pictures later.....

JR, I have totally different plans for mine regards to power. Gasoline....

But I'm not sure if I'll go with the proven GT33 or the new 40cc twin. Represents yet another option to us, a rather inexpensive one but no less powerful.....

Here's the finished product. We maidened the plane yesterday and it flew incredibly well. This plane presents very big and very well in the sky. I don't know if it's the scheme or the plane but it is really nice. It came in a little heavy but that was to be expected and it'll make weight without issue by simply changing out the Spinner and prop and using a lighter 10S pack (we put a Tru-Turn on there for now because the 91mm carbon spinners were out of stock, an APC prop and my heavy Hyperion battery). Just those three things alone are worth almost 200g which will easily put me under. I put in the standard 2% down elevator to throttle and that may have been too much. I'll probably wind up with a little less. Wings at +.5 and stab at +.2. CG is right at the back of the wing tube for now. Without anything but a click or two of left aileron, the plane was already in a groove. No mixes other than what I said for idle. Knife edge is beautiful and there is more than plenty of rudder with this bird. Power was out of site with the Neu motor. With only two flights, I feel this is going to be a great, great plane. What's the reason for having the wings and stab positive? Does that eliminate down thrust?

I have mine out of the crate finally. First impressions are positive. My fuse weight is identical to that posted. My wings are 30 grams heavier each and stab is 30 grams heavier (total) than that posted here. Everything else is as posted. My plans are to use my much lighter landing gear set up which will shave the extra 100 grams on its own. There are several places to reduce weight further, one just has to look....

It is a rather robust construction. Well done Bryan!

I will have a new Batch of Shinden`s around Christmas time. both glow and electric and both color schemes.
If you want an improvement in your scores and flying ability, this is the plane you want . Graceful, forgiving,Very easy to roll and snap.
The electric versions will weigh 2300 g w/gear/pants.
The glow versions will be 2500g This is great flying plane, and a tremendous value.
