New Evo Km-46 preview
Here's the next one fellas ...
The new Km-46 .
46" mono with a "kicker"
These first few pics are of the plug and dummy engine
This one has a recess in the deck for the pipe
Also a bolt in radio box with a screw down lid
First one fresh out of the moulds.
Dry run to make sure every thing fits
More soon,
Jay

RE: New Evo Km-46 preview
Interesting but I'd maybe make the area for the tuned pipe just a little wide so it sits lower in there.
Speaking of the tuned pipe, who makes the black one? I've got one that looks just like it that I picked up at a swap meet and have no idea who made it.
I'm liking the offset radio box too and the swoopy lines of the hull.

Hi Ron,
The pipe is a Gizmos victory pipe
I was limited with the depth where the recess meets the turn dow before the transom. Any lower and I'd be cutting into the air exit below.
Here's a couple of pics showing the pipe recess.
Finished in white for now

Looks really nice mate, are they all going to be painted or will you be doing some all in gelcoat.

I do my best to stay away from Gelcoat, mainly for saving weight and the problems associated with stress cracks and so on.
my hulls are a full resin lay up finished in epoxy primer which means their compatable with almost every type of paint for finishing.
I just don't see the point in adding the weight of Gelcoat when 90% of hulls are painted these days.
Just my views

Hmmm ok ,as regards cracks, there are ways of stopping that happening to gelcoat but that's my little secret .IT doesn't add any weight worth worrying about and even if it did a little extra weight is better anyway,a heavier hull beats a light hull every time in my experience.Light usually means a real handful,if you compare two boats the same but one slightly heavier one lighter ill guarantee the heavier one will handle better.
Also a hull built using gelcoat allows the customer to see just how good or bad the seam work is,paint can hide a multitude of sins no offense intended just my opinon based on experience.

Finally got the rest of the gear together and we are days away from hitting the water ...
Few pics
GPS
Radio box finished
Stuffed !
We are 99% metric All imperial parts have been re threaded/drilled to metric and the only imperial part on the whole boat is the rudder extension and blade bolts.
Even the engine mount isolator rubbers are now metric.

Mart,
I did think about the amount of rudder hanging below but as this is the first/test hull I'm more interested in seeing how the design performs at the moment.
Not a lot of video just yet but here's a few pics
Running with rudder and skeg stinger only - no trim tabs and I removed the turn fin
Bit of GoPro.
Probably not the best day, very choppy with 20mph winds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8YfGoH8XAk and the results - 54mph with off the bench set up
