nice set pf pictures....looks like about 45 deg flap available, but looks like a lot less used in the landing picture...also, can't see any linkage for the flpas - did you hide them somehow?

It was a day with alot of landingcircuits and I tried different flapsettings. It was also a little crosswind and it ois easier to land with half flaps then.
When it is nice and calm condition I do use full flap which is approx 65degrees. But it is a lot of drag and very sluggish in ailerons.

The flap linkage are hidden. Servo are mounted in the flap hatch cover and then just a hole in the trailing edge, hidden with the flaps.

Pics below, the last one is weathering with alupaint. Just some airbrush and sealer to go...

HI, just ordered the DLE 35 rear exhaust version for this bird, but probably will not get around to do any work on it for a few months. If anyone else has info or photos to share, please post. cheers -ken

I am ready to start my ESM 82" Hurricane and need a spinner. Has anyone used the optional spinner that ESM sells. If so, is it a quality product or should I look into another brand. I am putting a DLE 35 rear exhaust and Sierra retracts in the plane. I am also going to change the elevator linkage to two servos with pushrods. I may change the tail wheel. Does anyone know where I can find pictures or drawings of the tail wheel?
Thanks, P51Tom

Hi, you can find some good detailed pictures in the book Squadron signal Walk around no. 14 Hawker Hurricane. Here is the link for the free download. http://www.ulozto.net/xpkeLJE/walk-a...-hurricane-pdf

Here are two pictures from the book.

Thanks, these photos are great. Now the hard part of making it. I made a corsair tail wheel for my ESM 73" Corsair.

Having forgotten that I have superior piloting skills and neglected to use said skills I am currently adding a new wing to my Hurricane. This time the outer wing panels will be removable. This is pretty simple really since the wing comes in three pieces anyway. I used the flaps off the old wings. On the first wing I used a torque tube to operate all four flaps with one servo. It worked well but to make the wings removable the torque tube had to part also. I used a universal joint out of an off road racing truck. I soldered one end on to a solid brass rod that was soldered into the outer wing panel. The center section has a solid rod with a flat ground on to it. To make the u joint remain straight when the wings were joined I used a piece of shrink tubing. Works like a champ. Next the lights and wiring. I'm trying to have her ready for Warbirds over the Cascades on July 20th.

I would also like to use one servo for my flaps. I was thinking of using a torque tube like the ones used for strip ailerons and use the connection for the outer flap as the plans call for. I would also install landing lights that would turn on with full flaps. What are the opinion on the ESM spinner for this model. What size wheels did you use (scale size)? I started my TW and will post some photos later.

I usually replace or reinforce the landing gear mounts on my ARFS, but these look very strong as they are. Has anyone perform any work on the landing gear mounts?

Started my scale TW by bending and shaping a strip of brass. Drilled holes for axle and strut. Soldered a section of piano wire using a wheel collar for added support. Soldered a brass tube through axle holes then cut to size. Added brass tube to shape strut. I will try to load some photos today and as I complete the TW I will add more.

I have completed more work on my Hurricane TW. I carved 2 link halves out of hard wood and cut a section plastic tubing. I glued them together then mounted the link to the strut. I then coated the entire TW with JB Weld. This step takes some time because the JB takes a great deal of time to cure. After mixing I let it cure for about 1/2 hour. I keep an eye on it until it is firm but not too hard to spread. After coating the TW I sit for about an hour turning it so gravity lets it run where I want it. At times I do have to use a small screwdriver to shape it. After it cures I will sand and carve it to shape.

I carved the TW to the proper shape. I will add some details then work on mounting it. I will replace the original TW mount and make mine with a spring loaded strut. My strut is made from 5/32 piano wire so I think it would be a good idea to give some relief. The photos did not come out very clear with the white primer.

Finished shaping the TW then added some nuts and screws for detail. The TW is not true scale but looks good from a distance. I am working on the method of mounting it to the model.
