Default Spektrum DX6i no longer working - Guidance Needed

so I am new to the sport.

I have a spektrum dx6i and had already bound it to one receiver.

I bought two new receivers and bound the TX to one of the RX.

However, now, when I try to use either receiver my servos do nothing.

The RX and TX have power but nothing is working.

I am not sure where to begin troubleshooting.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Do these in order...

1. Rebind. Sometimes 2.4 systems can lose their bind for unknown reasons.

2. Check receiver voltage if you haven't already. Just because a battery is plugged in doesn't mean it's good. A 4.8v battery should give you 5.8-6v at rest when it's fully charged. A 6v battery (recommended for Spektrum) should give you 7.2-7.4v. If the battery checks out checking the voltage through the charge lead, plug an extension into an unused receiver port to check what the system is getting. A defective switch can cause enough voltage drop to shut everything down.

3. Call Spektrum customer service and explain your problem and what you've already done to fix it.

What is the tx voltage reading? I'm pretty sure it would give you a low voltage warning before it quit functioning. The tx batteries can take hours to charge, but BE CAREFUL. There's no automatic shut off. I always take the battery cover off to check the batteries now and then if they are getting warm, indicating they've had enough. And I also unplug and turn it on to see the voltage. The highest I've seen is 5.5v but it drops off pretty quickly and stabilizes a bit lower.

I was thinking about DSM2/DSMX compatability in case you had an older tx, but Spektrum's site says "DSM2 transmitters are forward compatible with DSMX receivers, and DSMX transmitters are backward compatible with DSM2 receivers." Don't think that would be an issue.

Time for a stupid question from me: You're selecting the correct model memory in the tx for each rx?

Also, to rule out what is obvious to the more experience...

Did you use a separate memory "slot" for each receiver?

Each receiver may only be bound to one model memory at a time.

K Swanson,

Whenever one of my students has a similar problem, I ask them if they might be Scandinavian-American. Could that be a possibility?

Ken Erickson, born in Decorah. NordicFest is in July.

Edited to say I just looked up Luverne, MN. You Are almost in the state where Thorval Thorvalson dug all the post holes.

go to youtube and search for some videos on using the DX6i... so much to cover. Read the Fine Manual. Find someone who does Spektrum/JR radios and have them help you.

Each memory "slot" or "model memory" can only have on receiver bound to it.

So to bind a second or third receiver, start a NEW "model" configuration and once you have it set up, bind the receiver to that "slot" by first selecting the new model in the TX before doing the bind.

While facetiously pointed out, the manual talks about changing model memory slots.

I apologize that my post came across as 'facetious'. I should not have tried to help at all, I guess. I wouldn't ask someone to take their time writing out instructions to something already in my hands. And I was surprised I didn't get an answer like 'Yes, I know about that already', and then we would look for the source of the problem elsewhere. That's where the 'Really?' in my post came from.

1. Turn on your tx.
2. Press the roller like a button.
3. It should be on the 'Adjust List'. If it says 'Setup List', roll the roller to scroll all the way down to where it says 'Adjust List' and press the roller again.
4. When you're on the Adjust List, roll the roller to highlight the first item, Model Select.
5. Roll the roller to the model number you want to select and press it. It will now go to that selected model.

You must bind to each different rx on a different model memory.

I was once under the evil influence of Spectre (Oh wait that was James Bond's nemesis), I mean I once was a member of the thundering herd of Spektrum users, but I discovered Futaba FAAST, and have never looked back! Good Luck with the Spektrum, hope it works out for you.

Happy Flying!

As mentioned above - you have to assign a model memory to each receiver/model. The DX61 has 10.

Make sure you are in ACRO model type

Go to SETUP list
scroll to MODEL NAME
press the select (top of roller)
scroll to unused memory spot
select
the roller spins through the alphabet. When you get to the letter you want select it, then go to the next letter and repeat.

The instructions are non-existant in the manual - it never mentions how to "spell out" the name or that an alphabet feature exists. That's standard for all transmitters pretty much. But if this is your first . . .

I'm a Futaba fan and user but I got a DX6i for my electric foamies. A good radio for the price and I have had no problems. Added a backlight (on a new switch) for these old eyes. Note this is set to Model 3 -SE5A

Sorry, I thought with a name like Swanson and being from Minnesota, you were one of us. I am also pretty sure you did what opjose and Charlie P suggest. Actually, Charlie did more than suggest.

Still, the thing that is worse than that is to be using Futaba 6-channel, 6-model memory and stop using one plane to use another and forget to change the model number in the transmitter. This Scandanavian-American from just south of the home of the Mayo Clinic did just that last weekend. Even worse is to try to fly a race with a plane that far out of trim. At least you still have the airplane.

I have been using these transmitters for several years now, keep them in a Walmart pistol case and keep the manual in there with them. Yes, I read some part of the darn thing every once in a while.

And you thought my response was bad. Anyways, I was done with RCU and wasn't going to bother with it any more, but had to LOL when I saw MAN's tx of the year, and thought I'd just come back and mention it. And it wasn't a Futaba, believe it or not!

Here's your first excuse: 'Well they must have spent the most advertising money at RCM!' You can go from there. Have fun.

kswanson,

Just checking to learn if you now know what the problem was. Genuinely interested.
