Is Kraft KP4K AM or FM?
I have two working Kraft KP4K radios. One is on 72.240 MHz and the other on 72.320 MHz.
I replaced the transmitter NiCads and both radios work perfectly.
Can anyone tell me if these radios are AM or FM? They have serial # 403969 and 404066 respectively.
Anyone know what year were they made?
Appreciate any help.

You can not use those transmiters. They are on very old frequencies that will cause all sorts of problems if you bring them to the field. They are on frequencies that required colored flags before we had channels. I am sure the transmitter and receiver are wide band.
That system was made by KO in Japan as Kraft was winding down. The only thing Kraft about them is the name on them.
I'm sorry I didn't answer your question but just gave you bad news.

They are AM wide band. When we switched to the present channels and interum period, the FCC said if you wanted to use FM it had to be on the new freqs. If I remember right they came out about 1984. They did make them in narrow band versions but it is a 1 in 1000 chance of finding one, and not worth the trouble. Unless you are a collector in need of one, the best thing for the hobby is to put it in the trash, and to me that is a sad thing to say. Wide band steps on 3 freqs at once, so you could crash 3 other peoples planes by using it.

RE: Is Kraft KP4K AM or FM?
Hi, I have a kp4k serial 404211, and I had it serviced 12-27-88 according to the sticker Kraft Midwest put on it. At that time, it was possible, 72 was no longer a usable frequency and this one now is 75.950. I found this web site looking for "it this frequency valid today for boats." Then I saw your question and joined to reply!
