What are these things on German Armored Car?
See photo.
What are the things on the front of the grill? There seem to be cords running up the hood to the window. Are they smoke canisters? Or spools of wire? Ideas?
Thanks.

RE: What are these things on German Armored Car?
What a great photo! The more I look at it, the more cool stuff I see. I can't make out the writing on the upper hull, but looks like the vehicle had a nickname, and I love the two boots (one on front fender, and one over the rear fender), presumably drying out. Does the unit logo identify it as a signals vehicle? The cans on the front look to be on a bracket that can be pivotted upward, and then the cannisters tilt forward to release signal flares? I can't see releasing smoke forward or right ahead of the vehicle grill for sucking into the engine and crew compartment.
Personally, I think the snakes-in-a-can idea is correct!
Mike.

I read the unit symbol as a motorized armored recon platoon.

Mike .... talk about dumb luck, how about this ......
I got out my Panzer Colors books and looked up the tactical signs reference page for fender ID symbols. I didn't see an exact match but when I flipped through the pages of Book II, I found this at the top of page 41. I almost fell outa my chair !!!!! [X(] The slogan painted on the hood says ... Salzburg.

How about Nos - they kinda look like early dragsters.
Could be Maggi Dosensuppe.
Now sure about smoke bombs, but they sure tried a lot of stuff back then, so it might as well be some sort of gas.
Would be interesting to find out, the people who know for sure are gone or can't remember
