Rthalls - I don't know of a Dauntless hardware kit that comes with 2" props, or any props actually. Which hardware kit are you considering?

If that's the Dumas hardware kit, you may want to look at the MACK Products hardware kit for the Dauntless before you spend any cash. I'm not saying the Dumas stuff is bad, just pointing out that there are other options. Here's a link for their site:

Okay now I see, thanks. When I built mine, I bought kit 2332 which doesn't include props. Also like Hydro said there are other options out there more well suited to stronger motors like the 700bb. I replaced my Dumas shaft struts with MACK brand and most builders here use the heavy duty couplers offered from harbor models.

Deep,
Were they the ones you already had on the boat, the painted red struts? Was that their kit #2341 which comes with props or kit #2332?
Silly question. Must have been hardware kit #2341 because you said you got new props, duh.

RE: the unofficial home of the dumas dauntless
enjoy reading these hints , I just started my build of the dauntless and getting some of the parts together . I have two 700 brushed motors and a 12v lead acid battery but don't understand all the different speed controls ? I know I need a brushed control at 30amps but where , the more I look the more confused Iam any help is appreciated............. thanks

RT - for running two 700 motors you'll need equipment rated at more than 30 amps total continuous. I tried a single 30 amp speed control on two 700's and it only lasted a few short runs in the Dauntless before permanent failure.
The ideal setup would be two electronic speed controls (ESCs), one for each motor. Check out mTroniks marine ESCs. They're rated by continuous amps for output and voltage range for input. They're waterproof and come with a good warranty. And they're not too expensive.
If you go the dual ESC route, be sure to read up on how to wire it here in earlier posts to avoid damaging any components.

My boat has a "Viper 40" on each 700-sized motor to control its speed.
The 40 amp continuous current limit means it's rated to handle 40 amps for long periods - so the motor it's controlling should draw less than 40 amps at full throttle under load (i.e. in the water pushing the boat). For this spec, a larger number means a more robust ESC and more powerful motor options.
It has 6-12 volts input voltage. That simply means the motor battery(ies) plugged into the ESC must stay within this range. For this spec, a wider voltage range gives you more battery setup options. You mentioned using a 12 volt SLA battery so you'd be fine. 12 volts is the sweet spot for 700 sized motors in this boat IMO.

Deep the ESCs I got are great. Easy to connect and calibrate, run cool to the touch, waterproof (my toddler poured a cup of water over one of them and it still works fine so I've tested the claim). So far so good!

great i have set mine up and run them on 9.6 they seem to work great the only thing i need to do is trim out the motors as one does not start at the same time the other does not by much ill play with that on sea trials when my batterys finely get here

Now that depends on your radio. Some you will have to, others you can use separate channels. If you're going to use two channels for the throttles, a twin stick radio would be the better choise
