Loving the Ultra Flash with K100G on diesel.
Crappy weather on Sunday but managed at least to get a landing video.
Runway is dirt and sometimes gets a bit slippery

I sold the P-120 that was in my UF and am debating between the K-100G and K-140G. Obviously you are happy with the K-100; did you consider the 140? I'm at 6500' MSL here in Colorado.

Gus

Hi Gus,

I would go the 140G. The 100 is great but I think the 140 would be just perfect at my altitude (700 meters).
I am not sure how it would be at 6500 feet but I am sure there are plenty of people on here that could give advice. The highest hill in Western Australia is 4098 feet

Thanks for the comment SR117.... All my landings are great (said with sarcastic voice) ..

Hi Paul,

nice landing mate! You just need some good off road dirt hawg tyres and 3 wheel drive and you will be set!

You loving the flash?

Regards,

Craig.

Paul,
Thanks, had sort of settled on the K-140 earlier, but after reading your comment on the K-100, thought I would ask.

Hi Craig.

I didn't consider off road tires Maybe a set of mud terrains on the old girl

I really like the flash. Have had maybe 50 flights on it now.
My likes are -

Easy to take off and land
very honest in the air (hasn't scared me yet)
Tracks like an arrow
Super quite in the air
Just fits on the back of the Hilux ute

Dislike (and I know people will hate me for saying this)

Main fuel tank. It's on a bad angle and I can't for the life of me see how people are getting most of the fuel out of them.
I don't really want to make a sump as I like the bypass.
How do you go with your main tank?

Regards,

Paul.

Hi Paul,

Mate I use the wing tank and the main tank and I run the main tank into the wing tank then into the header. This is contrary to the instructions but I reckon it works better that way because the wing tank has better geometry than the main tank. It just means I have to plug in two fuel lines when setting up but that is hardly onerous. Works well for me anyway and I usually land with around 1 litre of fuel on board after a 7.5 minute flight....loads of fuel on board which is good for formation flights and staggered landings...I land last knowing I have plenty of fuel on board. takes the pressure right off. I use the same setup on my classic flash.

Regards,

Craig.

Craig that is brilliant. I didn't think of that. So simple and it makes sense.
I will give that a go this weekend and report back on here.
Thanks for the tip!!!!

Hi Paul,

Another thing I considered is that having the fuel flow from top tank to wing tank is better from a hydrostatic pressure perspective....not having to pull fuel up hill against G-loads makes more sense to me and it reduces the risk of cavitation in the fuel lines leading to the pump.

Let me know how you get on.

Regards,

Craig.

Just Finalising Blue Angels UF with Jetcat 140RX and JRDMSS 11x Zero.

I am using JetCat LiFE battery Pack and 2x 2SLIPO for Rx with Powerswitch.

To achieve recomemded CG just behind the first screw of Aleron and Flap Servo Cover. i.e gear up 220-225mm back from the wing/fuselage joint

I had to move the ECU battery into the nose and add 160grams of weight near the nose gear.

Does that sounds right?.

Here is my setup ... Still Going to tidy it up, once the initial CG is set.

One more thing to report.

When I charged the Jetcat LiFe battery pack. I got the Reverse Polarity Error when I connected the balancer.

I checked the balance leads on the LiFe pack it seemed reversed.

Correct sequence from the bottom (seethe pics)should be 0.00, 3.33, 6.66, 9.99

I used a small fine flat head screw driver to lift the Tabs carefully, pulled the wires two at a time and made sure none of them touch each other.

It was an easy fix, then to replace the battery.

Balance should be with header full and 12mm fuel in the main tank. That's more weight that I'd expect, but it is what it is...
That was with the canopy fitted? I thought we checked the balance and it was not far out??

Yes this is with the canopy on but without the cockpit.
UAT full. No fuel in any other tanks.
Gear up.
is this correct condition to check CG.?

After some comparison from 120sx to 140rx

140rx is about .4 pound heavier than 120

Dave I see you have Thunder power 2s lipo. Which I think is a but heavier than the LiFe.

We will see how it flies.

Hey guys,

I finished my new yellow UF with a 140 in it about a month ago and love it. Very glad I went 140 over a 100.
Here is a video shot last weekend. The first 8 min or so is my buddies F4 but my flash is next and then some formation flash flying

Enjoy

Nice video CFII1974.
What's with the quad copter trying to make out with the strip ?

Hi Hospot01.

I heard that there used to be a couple of blokes that would leave there planes at the end of the strip. I guess you could be one of them?
It is a really nice spot. Have to scrape and roll it just about every weekend though as people go there and cut it up all the time.

Paul.

The other Flash in CFII1974 is my old faithful which has had over 200 flights as a Flash and then converted Ultra Flash.

The 6 rotor copter in the video belongs to another member of our club who was testing out the "go home" feature of the copter. It has GPS in it and if the pilot loses reference he just hits a switch and it comes home. The little bounces was it checking and re checking to make sure it was on the exact spot it took off from when it shut down. Pretty impressive actually.

I kind of like the "making out with the strip" analogy.. lol It was funny to watch but that little thing was determined to land is the exact same spot it took off from.

After going through "Fluttergate", I decided to get an airframe by a company I know I can trust. My orange checker scheme UF arrived today and it's beautiful. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the "Ultra Flash" lettering is a decal. Way to listen to your customers CARF! *thumbs up*

Looks awesome! I'm thinking about getting this scheme to replace my green scheme. I've never been too fired up about my green one. Good to know the "ultra flash" is just a sticker
