Default New Zenoah 'ZP'engines....

Hi All,

I haven't been able to find any user experience or reviews of the new Zenoah 'ZP' engines here on RCU. Has anyone tried one of these new engines?

I just ordered a ZP-26 from Horizon Hobby to power the new Hangar 9 1/4 Scale Super Cub I just got. I probably won't get to run the engine, and fly
this new bird until spring.....

Thanks,

John

Horizon has not had them in stock very long. I doubt there are many in customers hands.

But people have been putting CH and RCEXL ignitions on G-26's for many years.. It has always been a satisfactory conversion.

So I'm sure you will enjoy yournew ZP for it is just a RCEXL ignition on a G26.

I have just bought a brand new Zenoah ZP 26Ei engine with electronic ignition, this is the first Zenoah I've had and seem to be a bit stumped. I thought I would assemble it to see how much space it would take in the cowl of my model, I fitted the exhaust and plug and tried to fit the plug cap...... well it seems no matter how I try it won't go on. The plug is supplied with the engine and is a Champion Y82, looking at the cap on the electronic ignition i doesn't even look like it would fit. Has anybody had any dealings with these engines and the plug/cap mismatch? or am I a complete numpty?..........

Go here and read post #14: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11537995/tm.htm

BCCHI is Terry from CH Ignitions and a respected authority. This is probably your problem.

Good luck,

I always file a bit off the corners of the plugs to make cap removal a bit easier. Doesn't seem to affect the cap tension but really helps installation/removal. Just round the points a tiny bit.

I've just run a ZP 62 motor. Great idle at 1500 right out of the box and smooth transition too.
It's quite a bit lighter than the old magneto G62 as expected.

My older G26 was just converted to use the new ZP ignition. Not exactly sure which lead (from the ignition box) goes to the pickup on the engine (ther are 2 leads) ? Also, the old ignition had a grounding wire .... is there no grounding wire with the new ZP modules ?

Thanks. Bob

Has anyone tried converting back a ZP 80 twin to single prop hub? Is replacing the 4 bolt hub with an RCExl hub and then attach the single prob hub will work?

Probably be cheaper just to convert a magneto engine than to buy all that would be needed to change the hub on a ZP.

Change the spark plug to a NGK=CM-6.The Champion y-82 is just a little bit larger then the CM-6,and is a bugger to get the RCEXL cap all the way on.

I guess I answered my own question. I picked up an RCExl hub from AgapeRacing and also a pair of CM-6 caps and 14-10mm plug adapter, bolted on the 2" single bolt zenoah prop hub and it works great! that save me some time not drilling 4 extra holes each change of a prop. The CM-6 caps reduced the over engine diameter to 10"
