Very nice.
I'm building one now with a Wren 70 fitted.
The extended flaps / air brakes look very effective.
Looking forward to completing mine.

Cheers,

Pete

Thanks for sharing the video. Congratulations to a happy maiden! It really flies like a trainer as far as I can see. I am going to stretch the nose about 100 mm and mowe the turbine forward about 70-100 mm compared to the plan. I will probably also decrease the downward angle of thrust slightly. I think....

What kind of main and nose landing gear did you use Viggkri? Did you make it yourself or did you buy it of the shelf? If so, where?

If you stretch the nose, i dont think you will need to move the engine (if you have a light engine) i will take off 200 grams of leed, it flies very solid, so 800 grams of leed is no problem.Viggo

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=13271 Nose gear from Hobbyking (not in Stock at this moment) the main gear is bent 4mm aluminium, i made it myself, 5mm would be better. Viggo

Viggkri,
As a matter of interest, did you fix the tailplane and fin in place before you covered the fuz?

I mention this because there is balsa quadrant glued around the bottom of the fin.

Yes i did, i wanted too be able too make a good and strong gluejoint before i glued the bottom balsa in Place.Last flight i lost function on one elevator half, landed hard, but only smal damage, the nose needed too be built up again, and this time i made the nose 10cm longer too cut Down on the leed.Viggo

Viggkri,
Thanks for your reply.

Sorry to hear you had a heavy arrival because of the elevator failure, but guess you will be airbourne again shortly!

I'm not usually keen to film cover a fuz with the tailfeathers in place, as it makes it more difficult to make a neat job around the fin area, but in the case of the Retro jet, I don't think there is any alternative.

Viggkri,
How did the test flight go? Hope all went well.
We went to a Large Model Association meeting / trade show here in the UK yesterday And there was a Retrojet being flown there - very impressive performance for this type of model.
Hope to complete the build of mine when this extreme heat subsides here in the UK!

The testflight went great, it was a bad crosswind, but i got some help with it, one flight today as well, no wind, perfect.
The covering on the underside cant tolerate the heat in the long run, so i sheeted it with aluminium.
Soon redy for 3 weeks vacation, hope too fly it a lot.

Update: I have 4 hours on the Retrojet so far ( 30 flights) for me it has been a perfect trainer, it build confidence for the flights with my Elan, i have flown 10 flights with the Elan this summer.
The nose gear must be strong, it take some abuse on bumpy fields, i have changed mine too a heavy duty Thunder Tiger nose wheel asambly.

Vid I caught at the weekend of this docile jet trainer...if you fancy something slow and stable that's pushed along by a kero burner I'd say its a good option...also has an amazing short take off capability...literally took 5 feet on the first flight I saw

Was a blustery day Pete...did you see my first landing? Was much much worse than yours. Overshoot would have been an understatement
