Sessholvlaru,
I was going to say I really like the Sea Fury, actually I like them all.
I take it they are all ARTF'S?

Thanks for posting them here.

Dear All
Happy 4th of July to our American friends,
How are you getting on over there now without us?

All joking aside, we here in the UK are eternally grateful for the sacrifices that were make by American service
personnel during WW2, a debt of gratitiude we can never repay.
East Anglia where I live is full of memorials for American service personnel.

As an aside I live not too far away from Bodney, Norfolk, where the 352nd FG were based.

May God continue to bless the United States of America,

Down with the British.

Regards Phil G.
PS. Just one day to go until the Salute to the 445th Bomb Group scale model event.

Dear All
It is Christmas eve once again and the waiting is almost over yippee.

I have just arrived back from Tibenham and sorted myself out.
I tried in vain to get a classic Lotus racing car on static for tomorrow.

I was talking to a chap from Lotus classic racing about model aircraft
and he told me that Ayrton Senna in the evenings would get his model aircraft out and fly up and down the pit lane.

Everything is all set for tomorrow even the weather, let's hope that we have a good day.
As for the cost that depends on how many turn up, normally no more than £10
worth every penny in my opinion, fly your models at a superb site with a Sea KIng and Dakota thrown in for good measure.

The lady who runs the Clubhouse cafe/bar has got plenty of food in
and also ice creams which will be brought out on the golf buggy at various times during the day. There is hot and cold food and drink served all day long including the evening, plus there is a bar.

The postcode (NR16 1NT) that I have provided you with will get you right on to the airfield.
I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Below is a link to the airfield webcam, for those who are unable to attend.
Key times are 11:30 Sea King arrival and 12:01 Dakota flypasts.
GMT+1
Thank you in advance for supporting this event.

Dear All
I would like to thank all those who attended the Salute to the 445th Bomb Group event
and help make it very special, there was a lovely eclectic mix of models and for a change the weather was perfect for model flying.
I have said this on many occasions, I can only organise these events
if you people did not make the effort in some cases traveling great distances
to attend there would be no event. So I sincerely thank you for that.

We had technical problems with the Lancaster and Spitfire so they were unable to fly. Fortunately Keith let me have a go with his JB P40 which is exceptionally nice to fly. I also had a go with Bob's jet, Colin G's Raiden,Trojan and Tony plus also
Tony B's Cant bomber. I was very grateful for that.

It was nice to see the Sea King landing back in at Tibenham with a very nice display of precision flying. The Dakota closing the midday one minute silence
was really something else a wonderful aircraft and beautifully flown which made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

The funniest thing of the day was when Dibble and Ali had an altercation in the Balbo, Dibble landed his fairly large foamy Mustang with the canopy and a large part
of the fin gone and the wing chewed up. Ali roared over with the P47 and bombed
the stricken Mustang on the runway and scored a direct hit. Upon landing it was found that the foamy Mustang had fought back causing damage to the upper and lower wing of the P47.

All too soon it was time to pack up and we headed over to the clubhouse.
We had a good turnout for the Tibenham ball (drink and something to eat)
with some new faces present, Keith, Tony, Brian, Graham and his mate
plus all the regulars myself, Muffler, Dibble and Alan and the newbie John once they had finished gallivanting around the Norfolk skies in the Tiger Moth.

I would like to thank my helpers on the day they are,
Muffler
Clive
Dibble.

Thank you all once again, hopefully we will see some of you at the Battle of Britain event on Friday the 27th of September 2013.

Some pictures from the Salute event.

Here is a video of the Dakota flypast taken at Tibenham airfield Norfolk last Friday.

After a sabbatical of some years, I am hoping that Pat M. and Ivan G.
will be able to attend the Battle of Britain event this year.

They both attended many of my events when they were held at Coltishall,
Pat was synonymous with the 1/4 scale Hurricane (He sold it bad move)
and Ivan the TN 11 foot Lancaster. As an aside we had three of those in the air at Colt once.

Below are some pictures of the B17, Lancaster and Mosquito.
All of these models are large and they are electric.

Ivan has said I can have a go with the Mosquito, you beauty.
The B17 is 13 feet (approx)
The Lancaster 11 feet (approx)
Mosquito 10 feet (approx)

I was informed on Sunday whilst at the excellent Phoenix club (Mudders) event
at Lowestoft that Colin (Stratton) has or will be taking charge of a large BH BF109.
Hopefully this will be another candidate for the airfield attack sequence.

I also was informed on Sunday that Ian N. (Supersooty) is making good progress
on getting the Pica 1/5th scale P40 that he acquired back in the air.
So there is a strong possibility that we could have three P40's of a similar size
at this event, how good would that slot be. It would be like, being at Duxford.

Dear All
I am pleased to announce that this years 'Guest Speaker' at the Battle of Britain Ball
to be held in the clubhouse from 7pm onwards will be former RAF Tornado and Jaguar Pilot
and now Cathay Pacific Captain, Chris Drewery. Chris is also an exceptionally good RC Pilot,
he put in some excellent displays with his large Extra 300 at the recent Salute to the 445th Bomb Group
event, which was held at Tibenham. I am hoping to sort him a WW2 Fighter so that he can take part in the airfield attack, Balbo etc. Hopefully we will get a good turnout for this, anyone can attend the Bob Ball
you do not need to have attend the model event during the day. There will also be a WW2 poetry recital.

Here is what Chris had to say about his RAF career,

I joined in 1981 straight from school, XV and 31 Sqn Tornados, Gulf War 1 with the later. Then to the States where I flew the A10 Thunderbolt with the USAF and finally as a Flt Cdr on 54 Sqn at Coltishall, leaving in 2001.

Dear All
The opening flight at this years Battle of Britain event, will feature an airfield attack sequence with multiple models

This is the scenario for the airfield attack, some Spitfires and Hurricanes will take off and go high. They will act as a patrol separated from their Sqn's returning low on fuel and looking for somewhere to land. The 109's and 190's (poetic licence) will then take off and proceed to attack the airfield, more Spitfire's and Hurricanes will scramble and all hell will break loose. The high patrol will see this and dive into the melee.

Both teams will be divided in to historically named sections.

Luftwaffe sections
Moelders
Galland
Bob
Muncheberg

RAF sections
Bader
Tuck
Lacey
Johnson

Should be great fun, after all that is what the hobby is supposed to be fun.

I am hoping that Charlie C. and Dan D. from the Kings Lynn model shop will be along with a Spitfire each. As an aside Dan D. should be ace at this with all his 1/12 scale warbird combat experience.

If you think this one is tricky, wait until you hear what I have in mind for the big wing.

Regards Phil G.

Dear All
I contacted my good friends at The Spirit of Coltishall association regarding a WW2
air raid siren, they have managed to get me one on loan from the radar museum at Neatishead.
Below is a youtube video of one in action it reaches 108dB similar to Dickie Scarbroughs engines
That should bring back nostalgia for some people.

Military Air Raid Siren - Hand Cranked

I have been giving the airfield attack some thought and how the outcome of the Battle is decided.
This is what I have come up with, I will select a panel of four judges who will all be given pens and
paper, team Luftwaffe on the left of the paper and team RAF on the right. If a pilot from one side
or the other gets on his opponents tail for roughly five seconds that will count as a victory and will
be marked as so. You might say three judges might see the same victory and it will be marked
down as three instead of one, that is the luck of the draw. Exaggeration regarding victories took
place by both sides in the real Bob, it might also happen in the model one to.

The sections will take of in this order, Bader, Moelders, Muncheburg and Tuck, more sections
will be added if there is enough aircraft. The Battle will commence when the siren sounds and will
last for seven minutes, the siren will sound after seven minutes and the Battle will be over.
The teams will form back into sections and land in the same order as they took off.

These rules will be in force, if a model is coming from the right it must be below thirty feet, if the
model is coming from the left it must be above forty feet. If the model is out in the distance and
is traveling from the right it must hold it's altitude and the model traveling from the left must climb
above it. If a model infringes these rules the Pilot will be warned by the judges once, if it happens
again he will be asked to land.
The scores will be added up and the team with the highest amount of victories will win the Battle
and have the bragging rights for the rest of the day.
Sounds complicated but it is not really.

I had word from young Ryan from Lincolnshire that he successfully flew his YT FW190D
today, so that is another aircraft to swell the ranks of 242 Geschwader.
Below is a picture of the 190 and I have to say it looks beautiful.

Hello Fellow Warbirds, I was wondering if anyone has some info on the T-28 Trojan ARF 61 or 120 by BH Models. It appears they are no longer available, I have tried all over the USA and nothing. So if anyone has more info on this Plane please let me know, I had one and crashed it : (

thanks guys,
Scott

Scott, they are still available in the UK, Kings Lynn model shop has them for something like £118
It would probably cost you a small fortune to get it shipped to the US though.

Dear All
As you can probably tell organising this event is a labour of love for me.
We do try and go that extra mile to make it worth while for people to attend our events.
I always attempt to get a flypast, guest speaker and air raid sirens and things like that.

So with that in mind, as my nephew Muffler had done such a good job making a sticker
for the Salute event a few years a go, I thought I would ask him to make one for this years Bob event.
I might be biased as he is a relative but I think he has done an excellent job, a lovely momento
of the Bob event.

Every Pilot will receive one of these and if there is enough so will their helpers.

Dear All
The airfield attack has generated a lot of interest so much so that I am going to move it to 2:30pm
as I am sure it will be quite a spectical for spectators and Pilots alike.
The airfield attack will turn into a battle between team Luftwaffe versus team RAF. There will be a trophy (I am hoping a local company will sponsor that) for the winning team which will be kept in the club house at Tibenham. The trophy will be played for each year and will be known as the Battle of Britain Commemorative Trophy.

I am going to adopt Alan's idea of one judge per aircraft in an attempt to get a more accurate victory count. Everything has to be fair, we are British you know.
We will be looking for judges, if anyone is not taking part please consider acting as a judge.

So now the opening flight will be a WW2 'Balbo', that should be good Yippee.

I think we need to have a toast to Italo Balbo and his large flying boat formations,
for giving us that wonderful expression 'Balbo. Below is a picture of him.

Dear All
I had it confirmed this afternoon.

The BBMF Spitfire will close the one minute silence ceremony at 12:01 local.
That should make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up and bring a lump to your throat.

The Sea King Helicopter will perform it's flypast at 14:00 local.

This of course in both cases is subject to serviceability and weather.

Flightline Graphics have very kindly agreed to sponsor the Battle of Britain challenge trophy.
The trophy will be awarded to the winning team by Flightlne Graphics owner and my good friend Nigel W. (MrJoLLy)
or his lovely wife Mrs J.

As soon as I receive the trophy I will post a picture of it on this forum.

I have received word from Germany that unfortunately Herr Jon Nicol and his Lauterbach Luftwaffe
are unable to attend this year. It is a shame that as we were hoping to have the Albermarle/Horsa
combo up in the air with the HE111Z Zwilling/Gigant combo, which would have been nice.

Jon has expressed an interest in attending the WW1 100th anniversary event at Elmsett (If approved)
next year.

I picked up the ME163 Komet today, it is a bit like me it has seen better days.
I have been assured that it flies OK, it is built from the Dennis Bryant plans
but it has foam wings instead of built up. The model is finished in overall red,
the dolly has been modified to a trike configuration to aid tracking on take off.

The deal clincher for me was the plans were included, so in the worst case senario
I can at least build another one if need be. It is nice to have something a bit different.
I just need to get a test flight in so I am ready for the airfield attack and Bob battle.

Go team Luftwaffe.

Regards Phil G.

Dear All
This has taken a bit longer than I had hoped, hence my late post.

The WW1 boys, I hope will be pleased with this, it has taken quite a bit of sorting.

Pete Bond (KLM Captain) is prepared to fly his Fokker DR1 replica
over from Shipdham and perform some flypasts for us and then return to Shipdham.
I am trying to negotiate for him to land in, I will probably find out one way or the other tomorrow.

If we can't sort the land in, at a latter date we are all invited to view the aircraft at Shipdham.
As an aside the aircraft took five years to build and he is now building a Sopwith Camel replica.

The aircraft is painted in the colours of Ltn Ludwig Beckmann of Jasta 6 in March 1918. Jasta 6 was part of the Richthofen Flying Circus JG1.

Below are some pictures of the DR1, it is accurate apart from the engine.

I am referring to the Bob event at Tibenham airfield on Friday the 27th of September in this post.

Regards Phil G.
