Hello,

I collect old 10 cc racing engines and have just bought the engine shown. The only markings on it are beneath the mounting lugs. On the right is stamped "R 10" (Rossi-10cc?)On the left, "1" (Perhaps the only engine built?)

It is of classic rear (large!) air/fuel intake, twin ball bearing supported crankshaft and offset glow plug. It also has a "bulge" bypass in the style of a Dooling 61. The exhaust stack and lugs have been shaved for use in a speed pan, I should think.

It has a sandcast crankase and twin ringed piston. Can anyone identify it please?

Russian copy of a Dooling. Perhaps Raduga?

I would have to agree, it looks like something the Russians would have made way back then.
It sort of looks like the Rossi on the right side but on the left it looks like the Dooling.

I would nearly agree Holm, but the engine originally posted does not appear to be as nicely finished as the MVVS.

The mystery engines' prop driver has a more "Oliver" like profile than the driver on the MVVS, and intakes are different.

I think the MVVS you have shown is also 5 cc displacement.

If it is an MVVS or similar Czech made engine, the prop drive most likely would have parallel grooves on the face

and three are no parallel grooves on the prop driver.

MVVS experimented a lot with different Intake mechanisms, for now
I don't know any mebrane type but all others in different forms :-)

Last but not least: I don't know butI think it is an MVVS.
Maybe the TO can provide more pictures?
Never saw a russian engine with that kind of bulge.
I have other older russian Engines ("Polet")
that are .29, they are looking totally different.

That is a good point Tiffitech, it could be a early MVVS engine. So it could be Russian or MVVS, but during the time period the engine was probably made had it behind the iron curtain though. So information would be hard to come by for it.

Yes, I think this is a very early MVVS.
Next I want to mention, that sand casting and therefore the raw finish isn't a sign of poor quality in my eyes,
mostly it is a sign of a low volume production. The mvvs-26-59 on the link for example had a production run
of 16 (sixteen!) peaces only.

Low production would mean high value for a colletors engine. If you can validate the make and year.

Correct, it's an MVVS from 1958. I had this reply from Liri Linka in Czech Republic:

"It is very nice and RARE Czech engine from production MVVS Brno. This
engine is typ MVVS 10R from 1958 Year, made in limited edition for czech
representatives in control line models."
