I need some help.
Can anybody tell me the strut length of Sierra 60 Size Rotating Retracts (need toallow forflaps) i need to deside between Sierra and 100 deg Robart retracts. Will they fit in this wing?
I like to fit the wing with 4 or 4.5" wheels.
Please look at links
www.sierragiant.com/prod30.html
www.robart.com/products/100-deg-electric-rotating-retracts-16-scale
Thanks

FlyboyNZ: I have a set of Sierra's 60 size rotating retracts in a TF F4U ARF. In the retracted position, it is 5.375" from the center of the retract mounting flanges to the axle center. The strut itself is 4.625" from top of strut to axle center. Not sure if the strut length by itself will tell you if the retracts will fit.
I also have a set of Sierra's rotating retracts for the ESM F4U 74". In the retracted position it is 6.625" from the center of the retract mounting flanges to the axle center. The strut itself is 5.375" from top of strut to axle center. This set is for a heavier plane.
these measurements are not really good to 3 decimal points, but they are reasonably close.

The Robart gear are made for an 85 inch span Corsair and I can almost guarantee they would be much too large for a 73 inch P-40. I had the Robarts (air, not electric) in a Byron Corsair and they are a tight fit in that airplane!

Hi,
This P40 is a 1/6 scale plane. The Robart retracts are 1/6 scale, you sure this would not fit?
As you can tell I have got my hart set on then, but if they dont fit...............
Thanks

flyboyNZ: I think Chad is correct. Even though the title says 1/6, if you click on the "Dimensions" tab, the drawing title is 1/5... The dimensions shown would probably be too big for a 60 size plane. Something not quite right with Robart's information.
The Robart 615s are a set of air rotating retracts that are probably for a 60 size plane. I have used them on 16 lbs planes, but one had to be very careful landing.

I have the sierra and this plane . Sierra makes the gear but not specific for this plane .
My suggestion based on weak rails on the plane , I would play with retract blocks to add some length without causeing the wheels to extend too far out in the retracted position.
My dislike for the sierra in this plane is the struct length does not leave much room for prop size .
You do have other options , ESM retracts for the 74" Corsair , I have them and can give you the demensions but I am not at home until Saturday
Robart is working on retracts for the 74" ESM corsair as I know , they have my wings lol , had them now for 6 months , I am not too happy with email responce and still trusting in the delivery .
If your set on robart give Doug in sales a call , he is working on the project and perhaps will speed it along if he knows others are interetsded in this size .

I used the ESM Skyraider retracts for my P-40. The strut length necessitates cutting new wheel wells and you will need to do some trimming for the retracts body but otherwise they fit well. Please make sure that you reinforce that main spar where the strut passes through it. It's definitely the weak point in the wing. Ask me how I know......

I used a set of Jet centry rotaing retracts for mine, with a Sato 220 4c
It was a great bird, only lasted 2 flight, on the 3rd while flying upside down to check the CG the old wood dowls riped right out the wing,
This bird was used and don't know for how long thow.
I can send you a pic and mesure the ones mine had, im currently useing then in a turbine jet lol but i need something a little stronger

They do fit no problem and they are the same retracts that show for the 64" size Top Flight P40 .
He is not adjusting his strut length, so as stated they work great in function but dont give you much prop clearnce with a two blade , if you use a three blade that will be easier .
Just giving you all the facts

I used a Saito 150 in my P40. My mains are 6" from the retract mount to the axle and I used 4.5" wheels. I used an 18x6 prop and never had a prop clearance problem. Maybe my retracts have a longer strut. I would think a Corsair strut would be shorter than a P40 strut.
Good luck, P51Tom

I also have this plane with extencive mods and i went with Lado rotating units and fitted robostruts.Wheels are Dubro 5in if i remember.I relocated the LG position to more scale location and rebuilt new wheel wells.
retract mounts need major attention like LDM said.
cheers raaf.
