I'm converting a Panda Hobby 38(t) to RC. I'm using Tamiya black covered gearbox gear shafts as axle shafts for the 38(t) road wheels. I'm talking about the shafts in the Tamiya gearbox that the gears ride on. I need four more of the short shafts that are silver colored and take a c-clip at the end of the shaft. Anybody have four shafts from some take-off gearboxes they don't need?
The shafts have a head on them like a nail and the clip slot at the other end. They are a inch long maybe longer. Any help will be appreciated.

How does it ride with the rear drive?

I'm using the 1/25 Tamiya Panther gearboxes, outdrive and sprocket. I decided to mount the drive system in the rear and turn the 38(t) drive sprocket into an idler wheel. Due to the lack of space under the front glacis plate I decided to go with a rear drive set-up. Not accurate of course but more practical using the Tamiya 1/25 drive system. I added bearings and metal shafts to the Tamiya 1/25 outdrive system and for light off-road sensible driving it should hold up pretty well. I've only got one side done and I ran the track with a 6 volt battery while spinning on a marble counter. Runs just fine. Once I get it all together I'm going to use the 38(t) rear idler face to cover up the Tamiya 1/25 drive sprocket. Cosmetically this 38(t) will not have teeth on the front sprocket since it's now converted to an idler wheel.

So are the Tamiya 1/25 Panther G tracks the same size as the 1/16 38t tracks that came with the 38t kit?

No the 1/25 tracks are almost twice as wide. My 38(t) will obviously not be true to scale when it comes to the tracks and drive system configuration. I plan to make this IR battle capable.

Are the guide horns on the Panther tracks too wide as well or do the 38t wheels fit them? Not too worried about the total width of the Panther tracks. They could be cut down.

The 38(t) road wheels fit the 1/25 tracks just fine. The road wheels ride in between the Panther guide horns with room to spare. Plenty of clearance.

Mike: I scratch built a 1/16 Hetzer and used Tamiya Sherman gearboxes w the 1/25 Panther tracks.... Front drive. The problem is uniformity when drilling out for the track pins.... 140+ as i remember, and holding tolerances is a *****.

The Tamiya 1/25 tracks seem strong enough for light dirt driving. Plenty strong enough for the floor and polished concrete. I plan on using a 2S Lipo and keeping the weight down. The Tamiya 1/25 Panther gearboxes fit perfectly in the rear of the hull and leave room for the rest of the electronics.
