@guamflyer Thanks for following! I haven't settled on a trim scheme yet. I've been looking at pics of full size Extra300L for ideas.
@Andrew I did not hollow the bottom of the front block. It was very good wood and the part you could hollow is very close to where the CG will be, so I don't think the few grams would be worth it. Re the turtledeck stringers at the tail: I'm sure Steve will chime in, but we had that conversation. I'm inclined to do it as you suggested if I were scratch building, but Steve pointed out that it would require another wood size to be included in the kit. After having this in hand, I believe it will be easy enough to cover as is. I will detail how I tackle the covering as I get to the that part of the build.
Thanks all for following along. The thread has gotten a fair amount of views in just over a week.

I agree. On the proto I did shape two 5/8 sq blocks. I am going to kit this model and 6 inches of 5/8 sq costs more than a few inches of 1/8 sq balsa. Sqquueeeeek.

I suspected the additional wood size may have been a factor in your design layout. OTOH, most folks who undertake building from a kit today are likely to have enough scrap wood laying around to make the modification if they choose.
Either way, it looks to be a great model and Hollis is certainly doing it justice with his build thread.

Wow! Nice build, Hollis. I've been away from this place for a while tending to other things and was pleased to see this thread when I dropped back in to see what was happening here.

I like to have a little triangle stock around wing mount plates. Steve will make a change to the drawing and kit for this.

You will need to cut some clearance into the wing hold down block for the rearward action of the aileron torque rods.

Here is how I chose to make the wing fairing. Slot some wax paper or plastic to keep from gluing the wing to the fuselage and slip it over the wing tongue. Bolt the wing in place. Next, glue down a scrap of 1/8" square balsa to the leading edge as shown. Glue on a piece of 1/16" balsa sheet. Remove the wing and fill in the voids with light weight spackle.

RE: Build Thread: Selextra 500
I'm making the final preparations for covering. I've cut out and glued the 1/32" plywood elevator plates, cut the ailerons from the 1/8" balsa sheet stock and beveled the control surface leading edges. I also finished rounding the wing leading edge. I had only done the middle part for fitting the wing to the fuselage.I won't do a step by step on covering the airplane as this is not a beginners tutorial, but rather a build thread. I'll fit the ailerons to the torque rods and then finish sanding and shaping and move on to covering.

What are you going to cover it with, HFENN? I'm starting a Roaring 20 and thinking about what covering to use. Coverlite? Solite? Silkspan and dope?

Let's add some cockpit detail. The pilot has gone off somewhere, probably drinking in a bar. It'll probably take all night to find him.
