Default 100" profile

I found a set of wings/tail for a 100" span Extra 260 on Craig's List for cheap and decided to build a profile fuselage for them. The fuse uses the profile of a Yak 54 and I have a nice Yak cowl to use. The engine is a DLE 55RA. I'm making the fuse with a 1 1/2" foam core and 1/16" ply framing on the outside. As soon as the glue dries on the fuse I will post a pic.

Here is the basic fuselage that weighs just over 3 lbs. Home Depot foam with hardwood blocks for the gear mount and wing tube. Strips of thin plywood on the outside for stiffness.

I think the cowl will look good. It will cover up the engine, and all the other stuff hanging off the front of the plane.

I'm on the fence about the cowl, Its beautiful, but it may look very strange on a profile. This hobby is about what we want to try! Keep the pictures coming

PS: I have been building a Giant Su-Do-Koi from Morris hobbies for the past 2 years. Getting into Helis really slowed me down on the building. I do love profiles though.

With and without the cowl. The DLE 55 looks lost on the front of this thing.

Yeah, wow....  you don't really realize the scale of the thing until you see the engine on there.  LOL  Very cool project!

I flew the big Yak today...6 flights and I am totally happy with how she flys. The final weigh is just over 20 lbs and with the DLE 55 the vertical is very good. It will hover at half throttle or less.

I'm for the cowl on a profile,,,gives it a three dimensional look to it. Good job!! In fact I was going to add a cowl to my profile Yak 54, bought a plastic one from a swap meet, just haven't had time to put it on. You stole the idea from me,,,LOL

Yes, she will fly slow. It will 3 point land at what looks like fast walking speed. I will have to get my buddy to take some video and post it.
