I've now run all four of the GX series, 10-33 and like them all. The two smaller are good offerings in a small field of players whereas the two larger have a strong field to compete with where any engine must first run well and then have some edge and for the 20 & 33 it might be that they offer gas power without the bark.

I could use some help tuning the 15GX
I set the high speed needle out 1.25 turns as stated in the break-in procedure and started the engine. Ran a tank through the engine as stated switching from 1/2 throttle to idle. at 1.25 turns out the engine runs... however it runs pretty poorly. After the first tank I followed instructions for step 2 which was to set the needle so that you get your top rpm. at 1.25 turns out the rpms are around 5000 at full throttle and very very rich... I don't start getting good rpms until my high speed needle is turned all the way in, at which point I'm getting around 9500 rpm with the break in prop. Its still quite obviously very rich, but I'm not sure what to do from here. The instructions from what I've seen don't mention the default settings for the low speed needle so I have no idea if that is what is off...
After tank 2 I've stopped, since I obviously need some "pro" direction on where to go here. The engine starts easily and seems to run well... but I can't seem to get the high speed set correctly and don't want to damage anything.
Advice?

About to mount a 33GX on my 1/4 scale super cub. anyone tried hi8s yet. Looks like I have to move the engine forward or fabricate a different muffler.

Frank... yes, the muffler requires a sharp break of the fire wall not far below the mount. Take the plane to the band saw... ye-haw.

If it runs with the needle closed, the problem would not be an air leak but rather trash at the needle holding it from closing all around. Remove the needle and flush and inspect for any debris.

after setting low speed .The engine may be to lean where you have it set now.Learn how to tune you carbs.Many posts on RCU on how to set Walbro tyoe carbs. Throw the book away.

my problem here was the manual gives 0 indication of what a good starting point for the low speed needle was, so I had no idea if I was in the ballpark, that coupled with a line in the manual that says " the engine will run regardless of if the low speed needle is set correctly or not... meaning you can be extremely far off and still have the engine run, albeit poorly. So I was looking for some defaults as a starting point to make sure it wasn't just set incorrectly at the factory.
that being said.. I did figure things out and get it running, and running well...

You hit the nail on the head... pulled off the needle valve and found machine shavings that prevented the needle from seating. Cleaned them out and reset the High speed needle and everything runs great now. Now I'm currently 1/2 a turn out from fully closed and getting right around 10k rpm, decent transition.. took my plane flying and had 5 great flights today.
The Engine runs well and pulls hard. I have it in a .60 sized UltraSport that weighs 7lbs ready to fly and I'm getting much better performance than I used to get with an O.S. 91 Four Stroke. The one hangup I've found so far is the same issue that others had with the 10GX and the muffler loosening in flight. I need to get some copper sealant on it... I did try tightening everything hot but it still appears to loosen up in flight. Not a big deal for me...

I flew the 33GX again today and am beginning to conclude that the best course for at least the 20 and 33 GX is to rely on a starter. While they sometimes can be hand started with ease, too often they will burn off a choked mixture and not find a condition they are happy enough with to fire up. I've not made the change yet from the 20:1 to a 32:1 mix, which might ease starting difficulties.
They start easily with a starter albeit the 33GX benefits from a Dynatron.

Heli, that Stuka is gorgeous!
Let me ask you all about the Evo ignition units. Do they appear to be advantagous over the RC Exel or other ignition units in any way? Weight? Voltage requirements, advance curve, or? Just wondering if they would be a good replacement ignition for other engines.

I completed the odds and ends on the GP Stuka today and the plane is ready for the first engine break-in run. I plan to run the Evolution 20GX gas engine tomorrow.

I had the maiden flight of my Evolution 20GX gas engine powered Great Planes Stuka today. I had two good flights and things went very well. The plane flies quite well and the engine perfomed perfectly. The engine has plenty of power and most of the flights were at about half throttle. So far, I am very impressed with the engine. Sorry but, no video, I just have not been able to find someone locally that can video a flight without all blue sky and sound only.

Hey fellas,
I was wondering if anyone had thought/or has jammed the 33GX into the Hangar 9 Taylorcraft. I have the Zenoah G26ei installed currently, but would like a little more oomph so to speak. Plus the 33GX is a tad lighter.
