RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
Yes, there are several Vipers there at KY Jet.
I managed to take a picture of this one. They just kept on flying.
Jose Melendez's Viper had won the most flights, over 70+ of flights in one jet event.
I got there later last week and manage to steal some flights in between. We just hot fuel and fly until we need to recharge the batteries. Attached is a photo taken by someone. I was texting my phone while waiting for refuel with engine running. That's the best way to beat the traffic in an event that has over 197 registered pilots.
See the crowded flight line! Amazing, but well organized.

RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
Well we had a great weekend in Kentucky. The Viper flew like it was on rails. For sure one of the best flying jets I've owned. I had purchased this one from Global Jet Club in January and got it in March, well worth the wait. The Global Jet guys were awesome to fly with. We kept joking them that if you dont shut off the turbine it only counts as one flight. I think that as much as Jose flies that Viper of his, he's going to go through a lot of wheels and fuel. 70 plus flights WOW!!!!!
Friday seemed to be the best days to log a lot of flights due to the cross wind, it kept quite a bit of planes on the ground. I burned up almost all the fuel that I brought. I posted a video of a couple of my flights, I wish I would have had my onboard camera on in at least one of them. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsf4WCIS11s
I hope you enjoy.

Do they just run off the receiver power? Any measurements on the current draw?

RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
We have several inquiries for the electric retracts already. Since it's new system, we will need to test them before recommending that to our members.
The air system on this Viper is probably the most reliable one that I have known. At Kentucky Jet, we went through 70+ flights without any single incidents of not retracting. Other Vipers there were also flying reliably without any problems with the factory air system. Our ARF PRO Wired version comes with the digital valves, airlines, all installed and have demonstrated superb reliability.
A scale jet F-105 there at the Kentucky Jet was not able to fly because of a burnt actuator on it's electric retract. It's a well known brand and still has problems. The biggest issue with electric gear is the current sensing that's hard to adjust with variations of wind resistance at different speed.
Before, I was all for the electric system and can't wait to get one. Now, I just prefer this idea of sticking with what works. We will keep you posted of our long term test on these electric retracts.

Mike, couldn't agree more on the Viper reliability, I was initially concerned about the 2 mm tubing but the whole air system works remarkably well.

Did a WOT pass today and my turbine hatch ripped off. Hit my vert stab. The hatch pins ripped out. The latches should be in the rear not the front. It actually bent the pins and then the rear ones ripped out.
anyone else have this happen?
Guess Ill start taping it. It took some damage.

Sorry to hear that. Could you post a pic of the hatch? I added wood to the holes where the pins go thru and added more epoxy around the hatch pins and the rear pins. I was thinking of adding some carbon tubes along the length so that the hatch would not flex up under pressure.

Took a couple pics, the damage wasnt that bad, but now I will always tape it. I used some nylon spacers gorilla glued in. interesting when it hit the vert stab at full speed id didnt damage it. Tell you what though with that hatch off it flew like my old sabre dog, all dutch roll and all over the place!
I now have 75 flights so she isnt going to stay perfect with this rate of flying. 25 gals of Kero, burnt 5 yesterday alone.
I'll post the pics so you can see what happened.
BTW, flying this jet has hurt my skills, I flew my f-16 and it kicked my butt. Took several flights to get used to it again. The viper is just too easy to fly.

RE: JET LEGEND VIPER BUILD THREAD
Hi essyou. The plates are 2.25mm thick, I believe they are available as replacement parts but I've replaced some in the past with 2.5mm epoxy board and the seam to hold up ok and about the same strength as the carbon looking ones. I also used countersunk screw heads instead of the dome heads just to tidy it up a little.

Nevermind, thanks for the information. epoxyboard is fiberglass board similar to what they use for electronics.
I got invited to a funfly to fly my viper and I get to fly a real plane in exchange. So in worst case I'l make some out of plywood for now.
My front one gave out finally. It was cracking slowly over time due to grass landings, and some hard landings which happen.

My Jetlegend viper jet has served for more thanone year, myjetlegend T12turbine has safety work about 1144 minutes now.It wasstill very stable, powerfuland save fuel.
And I do hope you continue to enjoy your flying fun wihth the little bird.

Spark 120 issues
Hi all,
I wonder if anyone ever had issues with the Spark 120 in the turnkey version. My Viper only had 8 flights so far. I have never messed with the settings on the ECU. The Spark 120 flamed out so badly during taxi for the 9th flight and i was lucky to put the flame out quickly. The elevator servo cables burned and the heat affected the painting on the fuse. Aborted flight and took it down for inspection. A couple of days later, I tried starting the engine again. Starts fine, idles well but the dumps out a really huge flame each time throttle goes wide above 50%. It only flames when rpm is raised during a WOT. Tried this three times and I think the turbine has an issue and might be dumping excess fuel. Guys, the flame coming out is really scary! Looked like the turbine could explode anytime!
Everybody seems to be doing fine with the turnkey version. I have sent an email to JL about this and I hope they advice on what i need to do. Turbine might have to go back to JL. I the meantime, I have decided to swap with a Kingtech 170 i have for another project to keep me flying.
