2T oil for Jetcat turbines ?
A couple of manufacturers these days are allowing the use of 2 stroke oils in their turbines if they comply with certain norms. In the case of Jetcentral, they do allow the use of 2 stroke oils in their turbines if the comply with the JASO FC norm (and they are full synthetic) . They do recommend to use it at 2%. In the Jetcentral factory they are using the Motul 710 2T oils to try all their turbines.
This makes sense tome since the 2T oils are made in order to be burnt which is not the case of turbine oils.
Does somebody knows if Jetcat allows this kind of oil in their turbines ? It seems to be a pretty good alternative for replacing turbine oils which could be very dangerous if in contact with them for a long time.

I stopped using turbine oil over a year ago after some very knowledgeable people told me they did the same.
I now use marine high performance egine oil (TWC-3). Engines run perectly fine. I had one engine sitting idle for 10 months, ran just fine on the first start (Jetcat P80SE).

Interesting.....
I'm enclosing part of what is written in the Jetcentral manual. Actually the way is redacted, 2T oil is the first alternative and preferred over turbine oil.

Not and answer to the JC question, but we run our Kolibri engines on 2 stroke oil (and diesel) and have been doing so for quite a while with no problems. Those engines rev alot and have super small injectors. I recon problems would show here much faster then on a larger engine.

Don't know about JetCat USA but the official word from JetCat Germany is that they will not honour any warranty if not operated using their recommendations - Aeroshell 500 or Mobile II Jet Oil.
This was firmly told to me about a year ago when I asked the same question.

Absolutely right. You will void the warranty and place the rear bearing in a very difficult situation. Jetcat engines are designed to run on turbine oil and nothing else.

I have three (3) new Jetcat turbines now and I wouldn't mine to run them similarly to the Jetcentral (and not to say also in a cheaper way..).

Hi Gonzalo, I am finishing my stock of aeroshell 500 and then I will start to use 2 cycle oil.
About bearing life etc.. I am not worried to outlive my Jetcats!

I use 2T oil to Jaso FC spec in my Merlin turbines & all is well. DO NOT use 2T oil to TCW3 specs in Merlins, the bearings do not like it.

From what I've been able to read in manuals of different turbine manufacturers, they are very specific to say that the 2T oils need to be 100% synthetic and meet JASO FC or JASO FD (which includes more detergent). These type of oils are being used successfully in activities were engines are really abused (karting and professional motocross).

What you are showing is not an oil - it's an anti-static additive to be mixed into the fuel.

RE: 2T oil for Jetcat turbines ?
Gonzalo,
I guess the problem for you is the same as it would be for me - we have been using our fuel and oil mix for a long time without any problem. The only difference is our mixture.
In my case I started using Jet A1 and 5% turbine oil (Mobil/Shell) in 1997 in turbines (AMT Netherlands and JetCat). I have never had any of my 10 turbines go back to the manufacturer for any reason. Two of these engines have been running steadily (about 25 to 30 flights per year) ever since 1997 - they others have had less running, dependent on when they joined my fleet. But nevertheless, all my turbines get about the same annual usage.
So for me, I will stay with what is working for me, regardless.
Regards,
Jan

Does anyone know what this JetCat turbine oil actually is?
Very interesting that it states "Safe to use, no harmful ingredients" To me that indicates it may not be the usual MIL-PRF-23699 oil. Also note the label states "Safe for use in all brands of micro turbine engines."

noone in denmark uses turbine oil or jetcat oil, we get good service from jetcat with our 100 jetcat engines
we run on RS oil from Q8 for 5 years now, not a single problem with bearings

If it says that is safe to use, it can´t be the normal turbine oil that we normally use.
