I have all wised used 2.4. I start with 2.4 from XPS. Used 8 ch receivers until they came out with 6 ch. Have used that ever since. Have three Tamiya tanks, one HL and one Hooben.

I use a Planet T5, it's analog transmitter with fire buttons added. I get along with it very well. I reciently drove a friends tank with a 40mhz transmitter and couldn't get used to the MASSIVE ariel

I still have two of the old Futaba Attacks, but use a DX6i with the Tamiya driven T-34 (M4 parts). 6 channels let me include MG movement and main gun recoil, both servo driven, MG off the gear channel, recoil mixed to flaps/elevation and joined to the throttle cut button.
The easiest way around digital trims is to add a momentary switch to pot. It immediately hits full, which is what the trim does. If you have a radio with throttle cut and you don't fly big planes or helis with it, the throttle cut is a momentary button already sitting there, two wires and you're good to go.

I use the Futaba 6EX and 9C with my Tamiya Tanks and it has digital trims. All you need to do is program it up correctly and it works better than the old analog trims - you just flick a spare channel switch and you can fire main gun and machine gun using standard stick. Flick switch back off and tank goes back to driving as per normal. Basically by setting the dual rate and end points on the relevant channel you are simulating moving the analog trims fully one way or the other.

I must admit the 2.4 GHz Planet T5's are my preferred radio for Tamiya set ups due to the trims being analogue, but I still have a lot on my DX6i's simply because of their 10 model memories.
I got rid of all my 75MHz radios before I left the US, and never bothered with 40MHz - generic 2.4 GHz sets are cheaper than the 40MHz Futaba's etc.

I have a few (LOL) of the new Futaba 2.4 4YFs and they have all been great. I sell more of these custom radios than I do tanks. The mods are simple to do, but take some nerve to cut & solder a new radio. Good- bye warranty. Nobody wants to fry a new radio. Very good and reliable radios either in 2.4 or 75/72 MHz. Give it a try. The main gun fire button is a BIG advantage in IR battle.
FYI... the 72 and 75 radio and receivers are ALL interchangeable for tanking too.

A few of my older models use 75 Mhz bands but all other models use Futaba 8 and 9 channel 2.4ghz systems. One of my 8UAP systems is using
Hobby King's 2.4 ghz Futaba module and receivers. I especially like the performance of Futaba's system in my 1/10 all metal models which in the past
have bee prone to electrical noise interference. Not so with the 2.4ghz systems.

I've started using the new Tactic TTX650. It is easily configurable and I now have a toggle on it that is used for firing the main gun. The only downside is that when the radio is turned off the tank doesn't power down. That's ok though I just switch off the tank before turning off the radio. I got the radio with 2 receivers for 149.00.
