ORIGINAL: ROGER RUSSELL

I am done with my P 40.
Was always hard to land for me!

Was flying formation with a club menmber P51 and was having fun.

Time to land and landed a little off the runway and I knew I had some room back behind the pits (I knew nobody was pitted there) but just the night before I test flew a guys Ziroli Hellcat and he put in some temp PVC Airplane pipe restaints into the ground and he did not remove, I taxied (Waiting for tail wheel to drop) into then and ripped my wing off and a pretty good gash in wing.

I know I should not have been back that far, but still would have plane if pipes not sticking out of ground.

Hope retracts will fit H9 Corsair, MIGHT be getting that and transfer all equipment ovet to that BIRD.

Will See.

Roger
Wow, sorry to hear that Roger.

P-40's are more of a landing challenge than most warbirds, but it sounds to me like the guy who left obstacles in the ground owes you for the damages.

I should not have been that far back anyway!

I have found that the P40 likes a fast speed for landing. Gives good rudder control with the narrow gear.

Yes. I agree with Swordsn. Mine usually likes to taxi for a bit before the tail settles down.

7:40 min of the video is the approach and touch down taken during our event the other week. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ea_dRvzqae8

Maidened mine yesterday, (RCG50cc, J Tech muffler, Hitec servos and Robart air retracts) needed a fair bit of rudder to keep straight on takeoff, but aside from that it flies extremely well! seemed quite fast with a 22 x 10 prop. Very stable and has a nice 'crisp' feel to the controls and only needed a couple of clicks of aileron to fly rock solid.
The landing was a breeze, i have lots of flap so it slowed right down and seemed quite easy to keep straight (a bit of a headwind helped), it did not need any trim to compensate for the flaps.
This plane replaced an ESM Sea Fury that bit the dust, there is no comparison between them in terms of quality! the TP wins hands down, and flys better as well.pics to follow.

Glad it went well for you! My experience mirrors yours. I also like the .60-size with a 20cc gas engine.

They do look good on a flyby!

Got a few more flights on my TF P-40 this past weekend. Tried a 22x10x3 Mez prop and it really turned it on! Lost a small piece of covering from the bottom of wing, so now I have to buy a whole roll of covering to get a small piece. Glad it was only a small piece that came off.

I am wanting to put some nicer wheels on my TF GS P-40. What is everyone using? I am thinking an aluminum wheel that looks scale.

I am using Du Bro 5" wheels, they are not metal but they look great. Mine would not fit wider wheels in the wheel wells.

If you want the look and not the cost , look for Dubro Aluminum Cub Wheel covers .They give the look of scale aluminmum moon hubs at very little cost and can be screwed on

I used some plastic shims from Fourmost products on mine to angle the wheels just slightly more forward. This also resulted in a little more room in the wheel wells. Might be of use to anyone looking to replace their wheels.

On the eletric retracts excuse my question but I am just trying to help . Are you going into your radio settings and playing with the retract adjustments ?
I am not useing the Robarts yet , but will be on my ESM corsair .
I have been useing variuos eletric retracts for about 5 years now in smaller formats from 66" and under . They are in that size (flawless ) and getting better and cheaper all the time .
I am flying much lighter planes but it does not matter , its the fact that the enginering is sound and now proven in the field.
I have a 12 pound epo Corsair useing the FMS brand Retract and simple works in a flawless manner but needs you to play with the retract settings to get it to open and close to perfection .
I am also useing the esm retracts (generation 3.5) in a 16 pound plane no issues so far .

I was considering the ESM Sea Fury for my next build.
I've heard both good and bad. ESM kits in general are sometimes a challenge but any info, advice or tips on this plane would be appreciated.

Thanks,
paul

You can get the wheel covers on the Dubro website or even the Sig website (description below )
Aluminum Wheel Covers
Dress up your aircraft with Du-Bro's aluminum spun finish Wheel Covers. These semi-domed wheel covers allow clearance over wheel collars and mount securely in just minutes. Designed to fit our 4" to 6" Treaded Lightweight and TV series wheels.I have them on this P40

I can't seem to locate these Wheel Covers, I sent DuBro an Email; did you use these Wheels Covers on the Wheels that came with the Plane from Top Flite, as direct replacement for the flimsy wheel covers that Top Flite provided, or changed the wheels out as well, which wheels did you go with?

Thanks.

Got a reply from DuBro, and the Spun Aluminum Wheel Covers are no longer available.
