Dang, well Yates, it will happen when it happens.
Going for #7 in the morning, hopefully by the end of the day #8 and #9 will be logged. I'm going to dial in full rudder deflection on low rates, she needs it on takeoff.
Other than that, she fly's awesome!

I don't even bother using my dual rates on this plane. It stays on high rates the whole time, I'm also thinking about taking all the expo out. Still need to figure out why the motor quits every 3 flights. Been to lazy to tear it apart and check everything.

Little more progress.
Fuse is completed.
Servos installed in the tray. Rear wheel installed.
I have a question. The 32 oz Du-Bro tank when installed right against the firewall touches the servo tray in the back of it.
Did you guys had a similar problem? How did you go about it?
Also when mounting the servos on the tray, the mounting screws on the elevator and rudder servos facing the back of the plane are installed right into the servo tray rail which makes it a real pain in the &(@(; to remove the tray to access to the fuel tank for maintenance, since you have to remove all the servo screws in order to take the tray out.
Any solution to that?
Thanks for the help.

32 oz tank is much bigger than needed. I have a 24oz tank in mine and that's plenty. As far as the servo screws I dont think there is anything you can do.

I get to see how all this works out as I am getting ready to install my tank and servos. I may spread the servos around instead of have them on one tray. Depends on how she balances. I try and put the tank as far back as I can to get it to the CG, but this may not be possible, going to install my cockpit first then go from there.

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build
Hey guys,
Here is how I did my tank as the plans don't allow for removal. I'm using a G-62
and went with a 32oz. tank, but as RAM mentioned a 24oz would be easier.
I first made a removable tray (1/8 ply) for the tank. Then notched out the front of the servo tray
for clearance. Its a very tight fit.
The cross member near the firewall is the leftover piece from the fuselage crutch. I
used another one on the rear of the tray to hold it in. The "C" shape ply I'm
holding is glued in the front to reinforce the cross member. (2) more at the
rear of the tank are screwed in to hold the tank in place.
Hope this makes sense [:-]

Does anyone know the exact distance from the firewall to the front of the prop hub on the engine?
Trying to mount my G62 and I need precise distance if there is one.
I looked at the plans and wondering if I should just measure it but I am wondering if it is differente since I am using a G62 ad fiberglass specialties cowel.
Thanks for the help.

I am not sure you can mount the engine where you want it, it might change the CG considerably .
Most planes have a specific distance from firewall to front of prop hub. My Top Flite Giant Scale P-51 has that information in the manual.
Maybe I am incorrect but I chew on it little longer.....

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build
What's the length of your motor Fabio? I had to add an extra 1/2" to my stock dle 55 standoffs for my prop hub to clear the cowl. It could of went out even alittle more.

Fabio,
It depends on how your G62 is configured, does it have the cup mount already installed?
The plans measure 190mm from the firewall to the back of the prop. If you added the isolation mount, it is 177mm to the back of the prop.
A stock G62 without the cup mount is 162.5mm long.
I went ahead and added the isolation mount to my firewall for the exact reason that Ram said, I needed to extend the DLE55 out a half inch, and taking out some vibration with the mount seemed like the way to go. It worked out perfect for me without having to buy longer standoffs.

Asyou my allready know you will have to add some weight to the nose, So if you decide to go with the iso mount as shown insted of using to wood plate, make the plate out of a piece of steel this may eliminate the requirement for added wieght in the nose. I had to add 16 oz.
Some of the builders have used 1/4 to 3/8 and yaa with out a drill press it is a PITA to get the hole just right, and if I ever ding my firewall or front end the re install will be using the steel plate .
Just a thought
Cheers Bob T
AMA13377 Corsair Brotherhood #5
PS if you start out a bit nose heavy just drill holes to reduce the weight

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build
Houston ......we have a problem......
OK Guys here we go, hope I don't confuse you too much....
As per plant the distance from firewall to back of prop is 7"1/2 .
G62 distance from back of cup to front of prop hub 7"
so here is the problem.....
putting on the cowl with the back of it just barely in line with the mounting blocks on the cowl ring on the fuse, the distance from the firewall to the front of the cowl is 7".
So if I install the engine with 1/2" spacer to get to the 7 1/2" as per plan dimension, the prop shaft of the engine sticks up 1/2" which is very ugly in my opinion.
If I take off the spacer and mount the G62 directly to the firewall than the prop hub is just where it needs to be right past the front of the cowl but no longer following plan instruction.
What should I do? Just go ahead and mount the G62 directly to the firewall shaving off 1/2" off the plan measurement?
I cannot move forward the cowl any more since it will show the cowl mounting blocks on the fuse.
Any G62 fella out there with the cup that would like to share their expertise?
Thanks for all the help.....

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build
I guess you could really do it either way as long as the prop clears the cowl. But that extra 1/2" would probably be easier to balance. I'm not sure how much your motor weighs, but with a dle 55 I needed almost 3 pounds to balance mine. It's flies just alittle nose heavy.

Don't know if the TF Kit built is that much different than the ARF but my ARF balances perfectly at the 6-3/8" 162mm from the leading edge, with a Magneto G-62 installed so the prop hub is 6-3/4" 171 mm from the firewall. No tail or nose weight needed. Did put 2 25ooMAH LIFE batteries way in the back and had to move one battery up between the elevator servos to get it to balance.

RE: Top Flite Giant P-47 Build
Hey guys, I'm still here....lol Just been working and flying any chance I get.. My 47 has the top of the wing glassed and waiting for me to finish costumers planes that I am working on now, my shop looks like a Aero plane Hospital with all the repairs I have to do for guys... lol Going to be a busy building season for me, I got two 40% Carden Extras to do.. One is a new build from the ground up and the other is a Total repair on a very special plane.. My buddy and this plane were flown to Soul Korea to do a Demo, pretty amazing story that I will go into detail about when I do a thread on it.. Well he was hovering in some bad wind a couple weeks ago at a Fly in in IA that we went to and lost it, I never seen one like this, the tail went straight up at about 10 feet. All he could do was cut power and take his lumps, what a shame.. I felt so bad for him, this plane had history like no other I know of.. I will bring it back this winter for him, It's totally fixable.. I will do a thread on it once I start on it of send y'all a link, you need to here the story behind this plane, amazing!
Gary,
sorry to go off topic buddy, just felt like typing today... Give me a call when you can so we can B's and catch up Here is a pic from last month of this beauty, it's to cool of a pic not to share with you guys
