Hey Chris,

How's things? Have you managed to get any more done on the A10?

J
Hi James

Yes. My molding materials stalled me. Had to wait almost 4 weeks for it to arrive. I molded the wing different this time and heres the big mess of molds after demolding. 5 pieces each. This is the worst part to mold so far because of all the pieces. I have also been working on the pylons detail and gauge set.

Have you had any more flights on your A-10?

Im waiting patiently! It will be nice to have an extra hand and motivator on hand. We could get some stuff knocked out faster. I was hoping to have this finished for the last Florida jets but its been a crazy year for me. Make sure the boss man doesn't change his mind.

Not sure yet if I will be able to make it over there this year. What are the dates for BITW? I was just in California in June to get my daughter. I flew over and had to be there 3 weeks and had a grooling drive back to florida. I lived there my whole life and sad to say, I was glad to get back to florida. I will be sending one to Tam, so theres a chance there will be one there.

The finished gauge set. A master will be 3d printed. Lets see how much detail this nano 3d printing will pick up. My old ones were laser cut but this time I wanted full on 3d.

very nice work Chris ! those panels should 3d print out no problem at all! there are not many compound curves, and all parts are flat or at 90 , so even on a micron scale, you should not have much stepping at all

Thanks Voy. You have any of those live screens at about 1/2 inch square?

Some of the finest detail is about .01 ". Mainly the lines and recessed detail for switches and knobs. I even have some hex bolts that are about .03". The 3d printing world has gone crazy. There are so many materials now and the resolution is crazy. I talked to a guy the other day that will be printing the first r/c turbine. He also was telling me that they have a carbon fiber material they can print with.

Chris, we have 20x14mm OLED screens that would be perfect. We can crop the screen out to 12x12mm with the content for the 1/2" displays. I have attached pics to this post .. note: that ruler is in mm

http://shop.all-scale.com/2014-oled8...display-2.aspx

also, i agree, its amazing what can be printed! attached are two examples of small detail and hot it comes out from various materials.

all best,

Voy

Heres a good example of using frekote then deciding to use pva then deciding not to use the pva and molding a part. I think the pva had a reaction with the frekote and then I washed the pva off without putting more frekote on before molding. Now im stuck scraping primer out of the mold. I hate learning new lessons.

Side panels. I searched and searched to have these 3d printed but could not find anyone that could print this fine of detail. Ofcourse I just machined them myself and was very impressed with the results. Nice smooth fine detail. I could not have asked for anything better. I don't know why I didn't do it in the first place. A little overkill, yes but it looks scale.

Machining little panels for the main panel. All the little panels are different heights so I machined them separate and attached them to the main panel plate. I wanted the accurate 3d look.

Finished main panel. There are recesses on the back side for the gauges to slip into.
