1/8 truggy acting irregular, kindly assist.
I did the math based on what you said about it being approximately 5mm larger, however that’s like 1/5 of an inch. I should be able to find that much extra room, a fifth of an inch is not really much space coverage.<o></o>
Hey EXTRob, what’s up? I just realized that the motor has a stand that fits the stock motor. The stock motor has a diameter of 36mm, so the motor stand i guess will accommodate a motor of that size and not bigger. Can you assist with finding a motor that is of the same or similar specification as of the "CASTLE CREATIONS MAMBA MONSTER 2 2650KV"? I am looking but I can’t find one that fits the 36mm specification
Can you take and post a picture?
A stand.......does it hold the circumference of the motor case? That why you say it will only hold a 36mm motor?
Ah...just found this: http://66.159.60.249/products/sku_info.asp?sku=347452
THis is how your motor is mounted to the chassis? Looks like a big heat-sink. But how do you adjust the gear mesh between the pinion on the motor and the spur gear? Ilooked at some other pictures, and I'm completely baffled. The tabs on top are obviously for mounting a fan to the heat-sink/mount. But that doesn't look like any motor mounting scheme I've ever seen. If indeed that is the only way to mount a motor in that truck, then you may be screwed man. You'll HAVE to get a replacement from Hobby People.
There have got to be other DHK owners out there. Have you been able to make contact with any, here, or on other forums? I'm sure other Maximus owners have put different motors in their trucks, and worked out ways to do so. Might try starting another thread with a title like "DHK Maximus motor mounting issues" or something like that. Or search for DHK Maximus Forums with Google.
Sorry, mon, but Ithink I'm out of ideas for ya. Try PM-ing Syco, see if he has any ideas of where to go from here. Foxy is another guy with tons of experience. If Icould just figure out from pictures how that dang thing goes together and how it's supposed to function, I might be more help. But Ican't. You need to find some Maximus owners who've already been thru this riddle. Good luck, mate! Sorry Icouldn't get ya up an running again.
If that motor heat-sink is the only way to mount a motor into that chassis, you may be stuck using the OEM motor. In which case, you'll need to send it in to Hobby People. (Not what you wanted to do, I know......)
Hey Kmak. I notice in the pictures that there seems to be metal shavings near the pinion/spur. Any idea where they came from? Also, I cannot see how you are supposed to adjust the pinion/spur mesh. Do you have to loosen motor mount screws on the bottom of the chassis in order to slide the motor in/out to adjust mesh? I also assume that you removed the motor fan?

Looking at the pics I don't see any way to do any kinda mods to make a bigger motor fit that wouldn't require a machine shop, and cad skills
Welcome back Mr. SyCo_VeNoM, I take it this thread was boring you lololol! EXT2Rob has been helping a lot while you were away though. Actually i think EXT2Rob is probably the reason that darn truck is not in the garbage right now, trust me.
Okay question for you both, since the stock motor has a diameter of 36mm, can you experts assist me with finding a motor with similar or better specifications to the CASTLE CREATIONS MAMBA MONSTER 2 that has a diameter of 36mm or at most 38mm(think i should be able to get an additional 2mm from that motor mount if necessary).I am seeing a few options but they won’t allow me the flexibility of using two 3S batteries (6 cell configuration), i am only seeing for two 2S battery setup. I definitely want to be able to run the 6S setup on the truck and the ESC that comes with it should also be able to handle the 6S setup as well.
This is the reason why i am absolutely not interested in the stock motor at all. Getting back the stock motor will eventually land me back right where i am now. So since the truck is down, I just want to bring it back up properly and be done with it. The most i should be doing after this is spending money on replacement/repairs. Then i can focus on getting my on-road car (traxxas x01)
As you said, I've found a few motors that would FIT and work, but they can only handle up to 4S, not 6S.
That Mamba Monster system is your benchmark? OK. Seems like it would be a good system for your truck, IF you could get it to fit. Dang.
My suggestion is: Start a new thread with something like - "Looking for a 22.2V brushless motor that is only 36mm dia." and see if you get any hits. Someone out there may know of some.
Hey KMAK, I'm still tryin'! But I'm not having any luck so far. That darned motor mount in your truck is a major limiting factor.

Also not that I got tired just there was nothing I was able to add.
I looked through most brands of motors, even looked to see if there was a mount you could swap out, and came up empty.
Honestly it almost looks like they purposely did this to force you only to use their motors, as it was way more engineering then a simple motor mount that hooked to the center diff case.

I am not sure what the information in the last sentence means though, can you explain it a bit please. I also looked up this motor and its a 41.5mm diameter, so not sure why they would recommend one of this size even though i told them of my size constraints.
To help explain what Castle Creations was talking about needing about batteries, their motors and many other 1/8 scale brushless system that using 4-pole motor can draw BIG amp numbers. Low quality batteries that aren't up to supplying the volts/amps and dampening the returning ripple current can result in a fried ESC and or puffed (ruined Lipo batteries). If you have access you youtube do a search for mamba monster fire or MMM fire. There are plenty of examples of Castle esc's burning up because they're one of the most popular ESC makers in the business and customers don't always use good quality batteries for their application.
One issue is they are not the most popular ESC maker that would more then likely be HobbyWing as they are OEM for way more companies then CC, and sell all over the world where CC is a small place in comparison.
Other issue the ripple current is caused cause CC ESC's are poorly engineered IMO as you don't hear of any other brand having issues like them. But then again other brands put filter caps on so there are no surges to trash your ESC where CC sells it for I think $25 on top of their overpriced ESC's.
IMO Their ESC's are over priced, under performing pieces of ****, but their motors are pretty nice.
How much did you pay for yours?
I got a package deal on mine for like 750, includes:
2 lipo 3S batteries
a balance charger
Wheelie bar
the truck
Lipo cell voltage checker

Hey guys thank you both so much for your help, I should have my truck up andrunning by the weekend the latest. Read below to see what was done in anattempt to rectify the issue.
I flew to Florida and took it to the store that I bought it from (store name:"NEWRED HOBBIES").I spoke to the owner (Real cool guy, name is"TOM") he said he won’t sell me the Mamba Monster 2 because he doesn’tthink the truck is geared to handle that much power under a 6 cellconfiguration and since I am new to the hobby he wouldn’t want me having tomess around with the gears. So he sold me the Mamba Monster 2 ESC only and notthe motor. He installed it and there was the same issue, so i bought the motorand will be installing same over the weekend.
I also dived deeper in the hobby, I bought the following:
- Traxxas xo-1
- Redcat Rampage XB 1/5 gas
- And a Plane.
Thanks again for all the help and effort that was given; I will post an updateas soon as I complete the installation.
I don't quite get what you said happened with the new motor....he installed a different motor other than a Castle, but using the MM2 ESC. What motor did HE install?
Then you state the motor had the same issue? (over-heating?) And then YOU'RE going to install that motor?? Color me confused, mate.

EXT2Rob, I went to the store that I bought it and I told him I want to replace the motor and ESC with the Mamba Monster 2. He told me he doesn’t think that is a good idea because the truck might not be geared to handle it. So what he did was to change ESC only to the Mamba Monster 2 ESC, when i got home the truck was behaving the same way with the same sputtering effect, the reverse wasn’t right and truck wasn’t as fast as before.
So I went back to him and bought a redcat motor that runs 4cells, its a 2230 kv, I installed it over the weekend and it seems fine so far. So again thanks again EXT2Rob!!!!
