Mike,
On my next build I'll try a little of the foam safe CA if needed. I hadn't really thought of using that because just about every plane I have is wood based. The closest hobby shop to me that carries Bob Smith CA glues is about 20 minutes away and I do know they carry all of their CA glues so I'll pick some up when I go there this coming week.
thailazer,
Being in the doghouse isn't so bad..................it just means more building time My wife has a good sense of humor and she loves chocolate so if she gets mad at me all I need to do is bring her something with chocolate in it or on it and I'm good to go.

Now there's a slippery slope for sure! Let us know when you get out of the dog house.

Gypsy,
Now I know why my wife has been so happy. I originally used our digital bathroom scale to weigh the plane and it showed 4 1/2 pounds. Tonight I dug out another scale that I've had for years. It's a basic analog scale but is fairly accurate. I weighed a 5 oz fish anchor and my scale was dead on at 5 oz. I put the Kavalier on the scale and found that it actually weighs in at 5 1/2 pounds without fuel. I edited my original post to show the correct weight. I think that makes more sense but now I have to let my wife know she's heavier than she thinks

Well, it's been a while since I finished the build on this plane but today I finally got to do the maiden flight and all I can say is WOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO!! It took a couple of clicks of right trim and a little down trim but once that was done I can tell you this is one smooth flying plane. Take offs and landing are about as easy as can be, rolls are nice and smooth and when inverted I didn't really need to use much, if any down stick. I was also concerned that the OS 40SF might be a little underpowered for this plane but that is not the case This engine is an excellent match to the airframe. I can certainly see why this plane has been around so long. It certainly is a much better feeling building a kit that flies well versus assembling an ARF.
The area I went to fly is at El Mirage dry lake bed. Really nice weather this morning out there. I think I was just about the only one out there.

Great job on the Kavilier!!!!
I am horrible at creating my own color schemes. I have decided there is no crime in using something out there I really like on my airplanes...
Wish I could fly with you! Looks like a blast!

Thanks guys!
That lake bed is an excellent place to fly. The weather was just about ideal. The last time I had went there was back in about 1994 and it hasn't changed any other than they now charge $15 to get in. Edwards AFB is not that far away from this location and I got to see some drone aircraft flying around today which was interesting to watch. The colors on this plane show up very well in flight and I'm glad I went with this scheme.
It would have been fun to have other people there and I should start looking into getting a video camera that I can use to film on days like this.
This is definitely a kit that I would look forward to building again

Very nice job on the Kav - they're really good fliers. I've got a Mid-Star-40 that I've been in love with for a long, long time. Love those SIGkits - they're always good.

I need to match the window trim better. But that's about it for this baby! Here's a link of it flying. Just befor I panted the wheel pants and landing gear....... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DRpvqgxanEk
