Thanks Rog I'd been wanting a profile 1/2A Gee Bee Super Sportster c/l but couldn't find any kits and the old free Plans I could find were for a .15-.19 size c/l Gee Bee which I used as a reference to build my own interpretation.
I uploaded the plans I used. However, I widened the wing chord a bit to enhance stability as well as looks. And I omitted the landing gear as I fly off of grass and for weight savings. It was very simple build. An experienced builder should have no problem completing the airframe in couple of hours. But the the covering scheme took a little while to get right.

Spiffy indeed. I really like the lines of those vintage airplanes and the diesel engine really sets the look.
I'd love to build a 1/2A diesel powered version of a Playboy Sr. with modern lightweight r/c equipment instead of free flight.
Here are the plans.

Ah-those are one of the original sets of plans-there are better ones around for 1/2A-the Kustom Kraftsmanship one at 45" and the Model builder one at (IIRC) 50"-both of these are designed for 1/2A Texaco-and have wood sizes and structure appropriate to the size and weight-(which you don't always get by simply scaling an existing plan up or down.).......just to be different-I'm building the 45" KK one for F/F....with an MP Jet Letmo 0.6 (which being a replica, still counts as vintage under our NZ rules) Only time will tell whether it has enough poke for a model this size.....but I don't have to worry about the weight loading that the R/C rules require, so will be able to build it well under the normal 16 oz.

Here are some pics of my Cox Fokker DR-1 and my Testors Sopwith Camel. Neither plane has been flown but due to age, they need new decals as well as a good cleaning from sitting out in my shop collecting dust. I'll post more post more pics after I go through and give everything a good dusting.

Here are some pics of my OK CUB Hot Rod complete with original box and accessories, OK CUB Kart and new in original box, Pagco Jet tether car. The hot rod is powered by an .049 and the kart by an .024. Both have never been tethered but have been started. They both run great and are easy to start and I am thinking about tethering the kart and seeing how it performs. The Pagco Jet is powered by an .09 I will post more pics soon.

Here's a few current and/or completed projects-all F/F or in the case of the Powerhouse, built for both, using a separate tailplane and fin for R/C. The original (4K's? J&R?) plan shows a TD020 up front-and structure to match, so for a 0.5 diesel I've got for spruce in the fuselage-which had to be wet moulded to hold the curvature. Such a nice framework deserves a translucent covering, so this will get a two tone silk over mylar covering-exact colour scheme TBA. For FF it will sport one of Hank Nystrom's new 2-function (engine and DT) micro timers-which will also be fitted to the Spacer in the other photos. That one too started off life with a TD 020 but was persistently tail heavy so the TD020 got replaced by a Bantam de Luxe (not too many of these around) of about the same power-but quite a bit more weight. In retrospect, I could have simply added a couple of extra firewalls and moved the TD 020 further forward by 1/4" or so.....
The Y-Bar dates to 1953-and the original had an Elfin 149 in it-at a mere 40" span-it would have been hairy! The Space Hopper is a lot lighter, has perhaps 3/4 of the power of the Elfin, handles nicely-and the model flew straight off the board....

That's a sweet little collection you have there Gene. How does the Mini Mambo fly? I have plans for one and am thinking of adding it to my list of scratch builds.

Gene and Chris -

Very nice stable of planes for each of you.

Gene, it's always good to see the classics being re-created and flown. BTW, the Mayfly was the first plane I really learned to fly RC with. I scaled it up to about 48", powered it with an ENYA .15 III TV and it used a Rand Galloping Ghost actuator and Controlaire TX.

Chris, most of the folks I saw at the last free-flight meet were fairly long in the tooth. I've often viewed freeflight as falling somewhere between excellent trimming skills and voodoo. I'm glad it's still alive and well.

Vic-
Been racing any this season?

Andrew,
I missed the big OJA race this spring and not much else happening in the area. I held the speed rally and had a good time with that though.
When you coming down for that one?
