I'm a school teacher and as summer is coming to a close, I find myself working on my planes more, so this will be a good fall project. It's too hard to find the motivation to work on models in summer after being outside all day, with two little kids!

Zero , I use a small blue scissor , I got it at AC -moore craft stores , its just like Michaels .
Its sharp and it cuts small line a little at at time ., the cracks seem to come from long standard scissors that tend to want to bend the canopy as your cutting .
Thanks for the suggestion on the rails , I got some of them for my much larger Fw190 , the inside long rail on the bottom of the FW190 work great with a rail and ball link set up .
On many of the arfs you can save a ton of money , advoid any cuuting into the structure and just use some simple small rods .
The keys us really take your time when you set it up for gluing . I use the double sided tape to hold the inside small plastic rod to the fuse as if it was glued , this will allow you to reposition until you get it where you want it , then I draw my lines so that I know where to set itup for glueing .

RE: my second VQ P40
No problem buddy , thanks for following the thread !! At this time of year , its seems to difficult buckle down and get these planes done . With summer ending I want to spend my time outside lol !!! So some feedback keeps us all going
I added some guns to the wings , I need to finish some details on the wings ect and I just might tackle that canopy .
The problem I see with the VQP40 canopy (just noticed ) the front window lines are straight down , there on an angle , so I might have to compensate on where to start the opening for sliding ect .

Hey zero , this is my choice 1) I am not impressed with my half baked interior so I am struggleing with make it slide lol .
2) I have a Top Flight Canopy , the window is more scale and features a stright line at the opening vs the VQ that is way off and on angle .
So the final debate is do I add the slideing canopy for an interior I am not impressed with ?
In the mean time I added wing guns , I will post some more pics this weekend

RE: my second VQ P40
LOL well the only time I would do a sliding canopy is to show off the cockpit or to hid a switch or remote glow , if your not doing either of these things then maybe you should leave it be , however I'm hoping that you do , I mean come on you can always pretty up the interior can't you ? LOL

haha , i know what you mean , ok for the sake of simple time I screwed the canopy on .Now my options are , paint the Top Flight canopy and make that one slide and add more detail . I want to get this thing in the air , if she as sweet a flyer as she looks , I may even add moveing gear doors

I am going to add weathering to the entire plane with gun medal and an air brush , I think you can see the quick rivit job on the cowl .
Its a fun flyer so you can see that the guns are too close to the wheel fairings but the wheels are out further on the wing vs scale

RE: my second VQ P40
I took your advise on the cockpit detail for a quick sliding option what do you think ? , I have managed to line up all sections to slide smoothly and close with an even gap , the only think I'm stuck on is how do you get this to latch ? any ideas and or tips ? buddy ol pal LOL

That is excellant !!! Looks fantastic !!!. Now you makeing me regret not doing this one .
I just have to move onto to my FW190 and I want to get this one up quick
I can give you some ideas , I like the small rare earth magnets from radio shack , they do pose a challenge in that you need patience in setting them on very small wood panels thay can then be glued to your canopy frame in a non obtrusive manner .
Thats my best suggestion because there super strong and you cant see them

RE: my second VQ P40
Hi guys. I am finishing off a VQ P-40 with an ASP 91 4 -stroke and no retracts as it will be my first warbird and therefore a warbird "trainer" but I've got to ask - why do all these mods like moving landing gear inwards when you could pay the extra $130 or so and get the much better built Top Flite 60 size P-40? Wouldn't it be worth the extra money to save all that time and effort? Just had to ask. There is a guy on Youtube that flies the Top Flite and it looks great. Steady flyer and slows down nicely for landings. Username: AluminumOvercast1966 title is: P40 Maiden Flight He has a few other videos of it too.

RE: my second VQ P40
Because when the VQ was introduced the Top Flight arf was not invented yet .
The Gold Edition kit has washout issues if the wing if the wing is build stock , so tons of time was needed to build a kit that was challenging to fly .
The new TF ARF is a gem and far better then the VQ P40 , I would agree 100% but as stated it was not around at the time when the VQ version 1 was introduced and in fact was not even around when VQ version 2 came out .
